Deadly Excursion (2019 TV Movie)

Intrepid Travelers

Warning: Spoilers
"Deadly Excursion" (a.k.a., "Paradise Prey") is a messy film on multiple levels. A mother and daughter travel from Texas to St. Petersburg, Florida for some R & R, leaving behind the father who has recently separated from his wife. What follows is a nightmare for the two gullible women.

Neither the mom, Samantha McCarthy, nor her daughter, Ellie, were admirable characters. Sam instantly gets linked up to a shady charter pilot named Javier LeBlanc, who takes them on a purported "adventure" for snorkeling. But his true plan is to murder Ellie and kidnap Sam, selling her as an American bride to a wealthy foreign customer!

While there is some decent photography of the Caribbean, the premise of the film was so unpleasant and the action so ugly that the film lost its compass the moment when Sam discovers two stiffs in Javier's boat, the victims of his previous "cruise."

There was a ridiculous chase scene around the Egmont Key Island with Sam driving a Jeep and Javier following in hot pursuit on a motorcycle. Another chase ensues with Sam running away from Javier; Sam has a hypodermic needle and Javier has a gun. Guess who has the advantage? The ludicrous film score is Tom Toms playing during the frenetic chase!

It was difficult to care about the characters due to the preposterous situations and lack of credibility in virtually all aspects of the production. The only lessons to be learned are to beware of being intrepid travelers when cautiousness and planning are in order in chartering a boat. And, above all: don't go into the water!!!
