Refreshing!
5 October 2019
First of all, I watch Mexican films once in a blue moon, but I was really curious about this one. It's good to see actual teenagers playing teenagers and finally seeing new faces. Also take in account this is set in the 90s, so it's super nostalgic. This is not an original story, but you can bet the director did a good job portraying it. First of all, the cinematography is beautiful, the shots, the closeups, the editing in general is well done. The soundtrack is perfect for each scene; I would have loved to listen to more songs in Spanish though. The actors are all natural, of course a few bad ones but it's ok, it is still enjoyable to see them, especially the main character. NO, you are not supposed to love him or hate him; he's just a regular teen. There is a lack of dialogues and character development, also a few cringy scenes, especially the ones with the teacher. The humor is not awkward, but it could've been better. No, it's not a perfect film, but I am glad to see new ideas in Mexican films. The director should definitely keep it going and people should give it a try.
