The Rake (2018)

Ok I suppose?

So I've been a massive fan of the whole "creepypasta" scene for a loong time. I've written short films with the rake in mind as a monster. Doing so I had to refer back to all the lore built up over the years. I feel like that didn't happen here. I feel as though the writers just kinda got a basic summary of the beast and wrote an idea based on a one paragraph summary. The horror of it does come from the psychological dread brought on but I feel as though they mixed up Slenderman lore and Rake lore. It also just feels so fast paced and sucks at showing characterization well due to this. I don't remmeber any of the characters names in the movie at all. They all feel so flat and one dimensional. This story could have worked better as a foundfootage film. I know. How dare I suggest they go lazier with their production. But seeing what has been made online the foundfootage angle works better for these kinds of monsters. First hand experiences with some real character behind it all. I find it sad that the found footage series made by college students seem better and more compelling than this film and The Slenderman film for that matter. If you don't know much about the rake I suppose it's ok. Had some good effects for the most part and a good atmosphere built. But overall it's a weak adaptation of something that scared the hell out of a lot of people
