The first 'Death Day' was one of the biggest surprises of 2017 and '2U' largely does not disappoint. Bringing in a new sci-fi twist and expanding the cast add a refreshing take on the groundhog formula. But the real star of the film, just the same as the first, is the performance of Jessica Rothe. It's amazing that a horror film can bring so much heart, and that is largely due to the turn of Rothe, once again dealing with the death of her mother, but in a much more complicated manner this time around. Laughs, scares, and sci-fi/horror deliciousness makes Happy Death Day 2U another win for Blumhouse.
