When I sat down to watch "Truth or Dare", it was with the attitude that it was going to be yet another SyFy snoozefest, but I still decided to sit down and watch the movie, on the offbeat chance that it would actually turn out to be a good movie. Plus, it being a horror movie, definitely helped sway me to watch it.
And I must admit that "Truth or Dare" was actually one of the better SyFy Channel movies that I have seen in quite some time. It was actually a very entertaining movie. And it definitely caught me off guard. Initially, the movie started out fairly generic, but then it just out of nowhere jumped into gear.
I will say that the storyline, while it is generic and is by no means innovative to the horror genre, then it was actually rather enjoyable and entertaining. There was just something morbidly fun about watching the people having to suffer through horrendous things in the Truth or Dare game.
The characters in the movie were bland though, and they were hard to differentiate between one another. They had a tendency of melding into just one character, because only two characters were given anything that even resembled a backstory - the two people that cheated during a night of intoxication. The rest of the characters were essentially faceless.
Some of the dares in the movie were actually quite interesting and definitely had some thought behind it, while others were more bland. But all in all, a good mixture of things to watch on the screen.
While "Truth or Dare" is not the type of movie that can sustain more than a single viewing, it is actually capable of providing good entertainment that one time you do sit down to watch it.
For a SyFy movie, then "Truth or Dare" wasn't all that shabby.
