Review of Sense8

Sense8 (2015–2018)
4/10
Cliche characters, boredom, poor execution.

Can someone please tell the Wachowski's they have great ideas, but often fail at execution?

The characters are incredibly cliche and two-dimensional. Topped by incredibly long and boring slow motion shots edited with music to show how free and happy they are. Soft erotic scenes with gay men having sex, transgender lesbians making out... I'm not offended by it, but I really don't want to watch it because it is incredibly boring and contrived. It blocks the story. I'm happy they can, but should they?

Again, the idea is nice, but the way the characters can interact and connect is too literal. Why not have their force being more abstract, truly about 'senses', instead of characters walking into each others life quite literary? It's the same critique I had for 'Inception' versus 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. The latter has great dream sequences because the mind distorts and isn't that polished. The former is a video game in a video game. Nothing is left for the viewer. There would have been many other ways for this series to visualize connection between people. Perhaps the stage of actually seeing each other literary would take a lot of force and energy, and therefore would be a rare event? Show effort that forces the writer to be more creative. The fact you can tell anything, doesn't mean you should.

The script meanders and goes nowhere. This story could have been told under 3 hours easily.
