Review of Bad Tutor

Bad Tutor (2018 TV Movie)
10/10
Strong Thriller
3 September 2018
When Devin's (Charles Hittinger) engagement proposal is rejected, he throws his unsuspecting girlfriend off a cliff. Then he sets his sights on a new girl, Emily, who reminds him of his murdered girlfriend. Pay attention to the creatively insane ways he finds a way into her life! Character Development: Devin is a special kind of villain. When something doesn't go his way, he becomes implosive. That he's crazy-obsessive gets terribly missed by those around him because he is so good at waiting to react when he's alone, pulling on all of the muscles in his face to create tension. Hittinger's talent shines with creepy persuasion; there is no limit to what he will do to win Emily over. Kelly, Emily's mom, played by the beautiful Vanessa Marcil (Gina, Beverly Hills 90210) plays a very likeable protective and loving mom whose caring and support for Emily is admirable. Pacing/Writing Quality: Carefully staged with a seemingly winsome tutor, edgy situations, and realistic dialogue between mother and daughter. What's promising too about the writing is that the characters, once they are on to Devin's instability, are quick to make smart decisions. Content (language, sex, & violence): No language or sex. Violence is minimal, focusing more on underhanded schematics. This is an enjoyable thriller that highlights the special relationships between mom and daughter, teen girl and best friend, and teen girl and bad guy.
