This is just a shallow slasher
1 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I awaited the movie with great anticipation, but was horribly disappointed. Seriously now, the first movie had very strong creepy vibe, and kept me on the edge of my seat. But this...? It's just a very shallow slasher, so boring and repetetive that I fought not to fall asleep. It was absolutely pointless. A genre fan will watch just to check it off the list, but it will be one of those movies that just go over your head and at the end of the day you couldn't care less.

Major flaws: 1. Comparing to the first movie, I think it was to disadvantage that the setting was changed from a single house/house surroundings to the whole summer houses complex. Is this Crystal Lake all over again? It's not 1980 anymore, I'm not going to be entertained by potential victims just running around this huge space and getting killed in various spots just to make the deaths creative (at the pool). 2. Making the villains (Strangers) omnipotent. Again, Jason Voorhees much? The scariest thing in the first movie was that the villains were actual... strangers. Just strange masked people who come to hurt you in your house. It's scary because it may actually happen in real life, I mean, there is enough psychopats in the world. But in Prey at Night they are always a step ahead. They jump at you all of a sudden from around the corner, and you just ran a mile across the field to get away from them. Like how did they manage to even catch up, not to mention knowing exactly where to look for you. Give me a break. Also yeah a guy with a sack over his head is casually gonna survive car crash and being set on fire. S u r e.

That being said, it was annoying. Really I expected more.

But don't get me wrong, I appreciate the job well done on: acting, camera work (pretty shots at the pool! visually pleasing), and music.

So basically the movie is well done on the technical side, but the plot and concept it wasted. Please let there not be the third movie.
