From what I've read this movie had a lot of problems getting to the screen. Script re-writes, then more re-writes, finally being released, barely, years after it's target date...
I'm glad it was finally released though because it's a fun movie to watch. It's quirky and funny and stupid and silly and thoughtful and sad all at the same time. That's a lot for a movie with less than a two hour running time but this one pulls it off.
And you don't have to be a fan of Star Wars, or Star Trek, to enjoy this ride, they make fun of everyone along the way, sometimes in hilarious ways and sometimes in kind of dumb ways. Then suddenly at the end it turns out to be a story about friendship and loyalty and loss and is sad and thoughtful and uplifting all at once. That's a neat trick for a movie that less than an hour earlier depicted a street brawl (sort of) between a bunch of Star Trek and Star Wars nerds, in Iowa of all places!
And hey, if for no other reason watch it just to see Kristin Bell in that gold Star Wars Bikini!
