Wartime (1987)

Routine Italian WW2 flick

Warning: Spoilers
WARTIME is another predictable Italian WW2 movie, shot by genre specialist Umberto Lenzi who is limited in his antics by a very small budget indeed. The setting is Eastern Europe, where Nazis kidnap a Swedish scientist for nefarious means, leading a bunch of rebels headed by Peter Hooten to attempt a rescue. There's a lot of action in this movie but it's extremely low rent, with an attack on a train being a highlight; the Italians were good with miniatures and this film's no exception. The highlight of the movie is undoubtedly the sleazily evil Werner Pochath, playing the chief Nazi bad guy Dietrich, and it's a pity the rest of the film can't match his intensity.
