Abbey Lee is terrific and easily owns the whole film. At times it almost feels like a prequel to The Neon Demon because of her character even though this is not even close to being as violent or lit in neon lights. But this film is also an atmospheric psychological mystery thriller that often goes surreal along with hints of fantastical elements.

Alice comes to live with her brother in his mansion where he is trying to write his book and mysterious incidents start to happen and then Ethan's girlfriend comes to live with them.

The film manages to keep you on the edge of your seats even with its slow pace with its disturbing vibe making the viewers unsure of what to expect. Despite the fact that it never literally acknowledges it, the incestuous undertone (more like overtone) stays right in the centre of the narrative.

Who is the stranger? Who could be trusted? Whoever and whatever it is is it safe to welcome? The mystery is open to interpretation and they've given enough clues but enough space also for the viewers to reach their own conclusion or the lack of it.
