Review of Alina

Alina (1950)
6/10
Not exactly the Gina we all expect!

Warning: Spoilers
On a Koch Vision 7/10 DVD, we find an early Gina Lollobrigida outing, Alina, which will not exactly set her fans jumping for joy.

Not only is the anything but glamorous Gina somewhat less than spellbinding in appearance, everyone else in the cast led by Amedeo Nazzari and Doris Dowling, easily manage to steal all her scenes.

What we actually have here is not really a Gina Lollobrigida vehicle at all, but a rather turgid, dime-novel tale of smuggling, arson, jealousy and suppressed infidelity.

Photographed in a typical Italian neo-realistic style by Tonino Delli Colli, but somewhat glumly directed with little more than routine competence by Giorgio Pastina, "Alina" seems to go on forever and extend for 94 rather than its actual 74 minutes.

In short, rather disappointing, and not a movie I would recommend!
