Am I the only one that gets it?

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film based on Leofwine_draca's review to see how bad it could be. Actually I was really surprised - the narrative was complicated and unique. As a piece, the action is more in tune with the superhero genre and magic rather than straight up butt-kicking. Wuxia to us Chinese kids can mean anything from Dragonball to Crouching Tiger, so it might not be the spectacle of cables and bullet-time arrow dodging that we've gotten used to. I like to think, like the new Dragonball Super and hits like Naruto, this could be classed as a different breed of the old presentation.

I was prepared to roll my eyes at this and call it a piece of crap, but I rather enjoyed it. Maybe it appeals to those of us who don't want to conform to cultural expectation. Who knows? One thing I can say for sure, it's quite cool to see such a refreshing take on Los Angeles whilst not wincing at 50+ Asian stereotypes and omg that Japanese dude - super creepy!
