Review of Raabta

Raabta (2017)
1/10
One of Bollywood's Worst Reincarnation Movies
28 July 2017
After classics like Karan Arjun, Om Shanti Om, and Karz, it's safe enough to say that Bollywood has established a good set of movies on the topic of reincarnation. If the story, characters, and purpose of reincarnating are interesting enough then Bollywood reincarnation movies are always well worth the watch.

Unfortunately, Raabta is the worst Bollywood reincarnation film I've ever seen. During the last half I was fighting the urge to turn the movie off. It's quite obvious that it's meant to be a parallel of the Telugu film, Magadheera. While Magadheera was quite interesting, Raabta fails miserably.

The love story of Shiv and Saira was not enough to have me invested in them at all. And at times I even found Saira to be a flat character. Her actions were quite predictable and she didn't have that spark that most reincarnated characters have.

I don't even know where the begin with the historical setting. It was very terribly done. I'm not exactly sure what point in Indian history the director of this film was trying to show. The costume and look was not similar to those during the time period portrayed at all. Even that love story was dull for me.

I feel like Jim Sarbh's character was quite pointless. His character also didn't have that spark for me. His character was ridiculous in both the first life and the second one.

I would highly recommend fans of Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput to pass on this one. As talented as they are, they're not enough to save this movie. The only thing I would recommend is the movie's soundtrack which is available on YouTube.
