Okay, but diminishing returns are setting in
17 January 2017
The Ice Age films have never achieved (or aspired to) the greatness of Pixar or the better films in Dreamworks' canon. That said, they've always had a light and easy charm that adults can enjoy right along with their kids. By now audiences know exactly what they're getting from an Ice Age film, and the best compliment one can pay this third film is that it maintains the quality of previous entries. What it lacks in originality it more than makes up for in improved visuals (a pterodactyl chase in particular is stunning), a fun turn by Simon Pegg as a wilderness warrior, and the simple fact that after three films they still keep coming up with innovative mini-stories about Scrat and that acorn.
