Another reviewer on this site described KUNG FU GIRLS as being a Chinese version of CHARLIE'S ANGELS. They couldn't be further from the truth. If you want to see the Chinese version of CHARLIE'S ANGELS, I recommend checking out SO CLOSE with Shu Qi, which for all its cheese was a mildly entertaining little movie in its own right. By comparison, KUNG FU GIRLS is a disaster.
The first thing that becomes apparent when watching this film is the lack of budget. It looks amateurish and the poor quality of the acting doesn't help, with only prolific starlet Anita Yuen standing out. It's a plot less affair in which the premise makes little sense; a business decides to drum up popularity by turning four of its female workers into a pop group, so they have to go to a Shaolin temple and train in the martial arts. If you can work that out, then let me know.

There are a few training sequences in this and some extraordinarily poorly-choreographed action at the climax, but it's not a martial arts film at all. Instead we get a lame teen comedy with excruciating dialogue and the usual round of bullying, rivalry, and romance. It's eye-gouging stuff, and a real chore to endure.
