The Marx Brothers Third Feature is Frantic and Fantastic
25 August 2015
The Marx Brothers Broke from Their Broadway Roots and Landed in Hollywood for Their Third Feature Film, the First Not Virtually a Filmed Stage Play. This is Also Noted for the Absence of Full On Musical Numbers the Kind that Their Fans Usually Point to as Stopping the Show.

There are Musical Interludes and Some Toe Tapping Ditties, One With Thelma Todd in the Bedroom and Groucho on Guitar That is Maniacal. Chico has Another Great Piano Parody and Harpo Gets to Strum the Harp Beautifully.

The One Liners, Puns, and Gags are Virtually Non-Stop and the Brothers are as Energetic as Ever. It Is One of Their Snappiest Films and is Ranked High in the Marx Canon. While Lacking the Sophistication and Polish, a Trait the Marx Brothers Really Didn't Need, of Other Titles that Some Consider Their Absolute Best, This One Still Remains One of Their Most Raucous.

The Finale in the Barn Fizzles Somewhat and Goes On Too Long. It's a Minor Quibble in a Film that is a Frantic Example of Prime Marx Brothers.
