Jack Reed: Badge of Honor (1993 TV Movie)

Jack Reed: Badge of Honor is a made for television film starring Brian Dennehy as tough, no nonsense Jack Reed.

Its the second in the series of the Jack Reed TV movies as he has in this film a less than amicable relationship with Michael Talbott, which warms up in later films.

There is a nice cast here with Alice Krige, William Sadler and Neal McDonough. Reed is after a murderous sociopath who might have framed an orderly with learning difficulties. Reed soon discovers that the case is complicated by the US government as the main suspect is an informant and they are willing to go to great lengths to protect him. The main suspect played by William Sadler oozes so much villainy that there is no suspense in the story.

Dennehy and the makers of this TV film are aiming for gritty realism but its very unconvincing and soft centred. There is nothing hard boiled here and later Reed films do not seem to improve matters.
