Review of Zanjeer

Zanjeer (2013)
5/10
A One-Time Watch!

A remake of the 1973 blockbuster of the same name, 'Zanjeer' is fairly engaging action-drama, that boasts good performances & some thrilling moments in the goings-on.

'Zanjeer' Synopsis: ACP Vijay Khanna is transferred to Mumbai where he will have do deal with the oil mafia led by Rudra Pratap Teja.

'Zanjeer' begins tepidly but gathers moments 30-minutes into the film. The action-sequences are credible & the execution of the sequences is top-notch. The dramatic moments work more-so in the second-hour, when the begins Hero to break down the Villain. However, the romantic track is a yawn. It's these portions that bring the pace down & even effects the overall impact.

The Screenplay is fair, but the romantic track could've been avoided easily. Apoorva Lakhia's Direction is stylish. Cinematography, Editing & Art Design are okay. Action-Sequences are credible.

Performance-Wise: Ram Charan gives his best shot by essaying a character as iconic as ACP Vijay Khanna. He's decent. Priyanka Chopra is saddled with an ill written character. Sanjay Dutt is dynamic in a supporting role. Prakash Raj is remarkable as the villain. He's evil all through. Mahie Gill is hardly there. Atul Kulkarni is efficient, as always. Dayashankar Pandey is good.

On the whole, 'Zanjeer' is a passable remake.
