I worked at the door of a screening of In A World
at the L.A. Film Festival and was treated to see it for free which meant I missed the first 10-15 minutes and had to sit at the front. I intended to just watch a little bit to rest my legs but the film is so engaging that it was worth the neck pain. Its charm come from its wonderful affectionate sense of humour. It kind of reminds me of Kristen Wiig's sense of humour but less awkward and here it was a much better world for it than Bridesmaids. It has a lovely network of characters but perhaps it supports too many subplots to the point where it drowns out the main story and the theme isn't clear. Nevertheless, it's fun to follow. Perhaps the film is a little silly as it suffers from pretty lame choices of "big events" for the drama to circle around but it's just a love letter to Don LaFontaine and the movies. Great little indie I'm looking forward to rewatching.
