Compelling take on the Arthurian legend
12 September 2012
Not one of Golden Films' very best mind you, but not one of their worst either. There is some stiff character animation(some like the adolescent Arthur are also on the generic side) in scenes like the big fight sequence towards the end and some instances where the singing doesn't fit the voice actor, adult Arthur is the worst case, from noble to a singer who sounds like someone about a decade younger than the voice actor. However, the backgrounds are colourful and look vibrant and fluid, and the background scoring is excellent. I quite enjoyed the songs, especially Merlin's, they have nice melodies and searching lyrics. The writing has moments where it is amusing and touching, and the story is compelling, the ending especially is moving. The character don't feel stereotypical or cardboard, Merlin is a noble and wise character who you take to immediately and Arthur is an engaging character in his own right. The voice acting is solid. All in all, I liked it. 8/10 Bethany Cox
