Sibelle Hu (as a cop) & bumbling male partner nicknamed "Lethal Weapon" vs. Moon Lee & Yukari Oshima (as a pair of "contemporary Robin Hoods"), until they all team up against a gang of art thieves with more egotistical motives. "The Big Deal" is a completely crazy, outrageous action comedy that is willing to do anything, and I do mean anything, for a laugh (there is even a fart gag!). Although it's more energetic than funny, I must admit that I found it refreshing to see these actresses, and particularly Yukari Oshima and Sophia Crawford (as the villain's girl), breaking out of their usual ultra-serious personas and acting 100% liberated and silly. At the same time, the action scenes themselves are pretty good, if heavily laced with slapstick; wait 'till you see the way the seemingly unbeatable villain is defeated at the end, I can guarantee that you have NOT seen anything like that before. **1/2 out of 4.
