I must admit, when I saw the first two movies (and especially the first) I was both shocked and amazed at just how interestingly gory a movie could be. Having not known what the movie was about the first time I saw it in theaters I remember clearly the experience of people leaving with disgusted faces as soon as the movie took it's dark and gruesome turn.
I will also admit that I had a lot of doubts when I heard there would be a third installment to the Hostel series that WASN'T directed by Eli Roth. There's a new writer and a new director and I suspect when they say based on characters from Eli Roth that points to very minimal involvement from the original creator of the series. However, I did some IMDb research and discovered that the director actually is close with Quentin Tarantino and helped him get his start in the film business.
But back to Hostel part 3. I loved the other 2 movies and they really can't be compared because they are both stand alone modern horror classics. But the thirds movie was actually just as action packed and if anything a great homage to the series with an attempt to up the anti a little by having multiple viewers in the torturing audience. I won't spoil anything because if you like the series you will by very surprised by constant twists and turns and scary, suspenseful scenes full of interesting (and very sexy characters.)
