Salaakhen (1998)
Last Guddu-Sunny Movie in the 90's
15 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Sunny Deol and Guddu Dhanoa did two movies in the 90's out of which only one was successful. This is his second movie after Ziddi(1997), which was a blockbuster. This movie Salaakhen however was a flop(not a disaster though). The movie is something new in Bollywood, we see a middle classed family living a happy life until Anumpam Kher the father witnesses a murder committed by the villain's son. Like an ordinary citizen, he walks away and ignores everything he saw. However, one day when he see's the villain Amrish Puri giving a speech and fooling the citizens, he tells the truth to the people and after this, he is mentally tortured to such a limit that he shoots himself. Sunny Deol the son is put in jail for attacking the police but he breaks out and as usual kills all the badguys and surrenders to the police. Raveena Tandon doesn't really have a role, she is just there to sing songs and romance with Sunny Deol. But, my point is the first half and 20% of the second half went very well, the plot and the conflict was well handled, the acting was really good although Sunny Deol hams a bit. The main problem is the part after the conflict, the rush of action sequences, the movie becomes typical Sunny Deol loud movie after the conflict. The action sequences and stunts are so bad, the death of each villain was bad and the ending where the cars were flying and how Amrish died was terrible. How could such a movie drop so much that it becomes so bad. They destroyed the movie with the crappy action near the end and the worst part is there is no good ending, Deol is still in jail with his punishment decreased and that's how it ends. The way the problems were solved were bad and the way Sunny Deol just escapes and kills the badguys is utterly stupid.

Final Decision: 5.5/10 5.5 for good start, good conflict, good story, good acting
