Jewel of a movie, pushes all the right buttons
7 December 2010
great script, great cast, granted nowt ground breaking here but bloody good fun and ultimately a touching film.

I've just gotten back from a screening and Q&A at the Everyman and I have to say I loved it. I'm a big fan of Giamatti's and he does a fantastic job leading this movie but there's so much more to it; Pike's performance is simply beautiful, Hoffman with a lesser leading man would steal the show (and comes close), Driver is a comedy delight and the rest of the supporting cast carry off their roles with aplomb. Also look out for a host of cameos and in jokes.

There's some pretty big chronological jumps but given the film covers 4 decades its probably to be expected. Like I said its nothing ground breaking but its a very competent piece of film making and a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a few hours. enjoy :-)
