DOUGLAS does his best job in years in this movie. Perhaps he's really not acting at all but playing himself as I hear he's not a very nice person. Regardless, he really nails his character. Ben is in a downward spiral as his life becomes more and more complicated due to is own faults. Business, women and health are taking their toll. Actually this SOLITARY MAN is more of a character study than a story as such. DOUGLAS is on screen constantly and everything revolves around him from beginning to the end, which by the way, is not really resolved. The supporting players are all outstanding in their tiny roles. The only exception is JESSE EISENBERG. He plays the SAME role over and over again. No acting range at all. Please keep this actor OFF THE SCREEN forever. Jesse, get yourself another job!! There is one character at the end of the party scene who really shines. She's the girl DOUGLAS makes a pass at and she rebuffs him. Quite a find this actress. Hope to see more of her. By the way, her character likes PANCAKES!!
