This episode opens with Sydney and the APO team meeting a man in an Algerian souq, he claims to be selling a weapon but he can't hand it over as he has swallowed it. Before the discussions can go any further they realise he was followed and attempt to extract him. Something strange happens though as he runs his leg snaps off below the knee and before anybody can comment he is shot and shatters into hundreds of pieces! Among the remains a small capsule is found; it contained 'Ice Five' a chemical that almost instantly freeze-dries anybody it comes into contact with. It is believed that a man called Keene is manufacturing it in a charity hospital in Macedonia. Sydney goes in undercover and Vaughn tries to get to know one of the women doctor's by going in disguised as a Catholic priest. It turns out that she is Keene's brother so Vaughn tries to turn her against him as he senses she wants to get away from him. In doing this he ends up talking about the recent painful events in his own life as he too was betrayed by somebody he loved.
This might not be the most action packed episode but it is one of my favourites, this is largely down to the emotional scenes between Michael Vartan who plays Vaughn and Kelly MacDonald, of 'Trainspotting' fame, who plays Keene's sister Kiera MacLaine; both actors did brilliantly in their scenes together. While I mentioned that it isn't the most action packed episode it does have a couple of good fight sequences and when the man shatters it is as impressive as it is shocking
