Nice short!
2 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I got a chance to see this short when it came across my boss's desk. As an assistant in the entertainment industry, I have to watch and read a lot of crap but this short film was a real pleasant surprise. It deftly weaves a compelling story about a preacher who has lost his faith into the thriller/horror/suspense genre without diluting either aspect. Fans of these kinds of genre films will be satisfied by the action and violence, and those interested in watching a story about one man's complex internal struggle with the existence of God will come out of this movie ready for an intellectual debate with their fellow audience members.

Without giving too much away, Adam Mathews, a small town preacher, wakes up in the middle of the woods with a tree branch in his gut and no recollection of how he got there. Luckily a Park Ranger finds him, patches him up, and takes him back to his Ranger Station. After some initial questioning, it becomes clear that Adam has no memory of what happened and a sinking feeling his wife is still lost in the woods. When Adam discovers a prisoner locked up in the basement wearing the same tattered uniform as the Ranger, he realizes that perhaps his rescuer is something much more dangerous. Who is the Ranger? Who is the Prisoner? Where is Adam's wife and how is she connected to everything? All these questions keep you on the edge of your seat for the length of the film.

When this film makes the festival circuit, and I'm sure it will, definitely make an effort to go check it out.
