Nothing Grand About This Ms. Grandin Bio Film *

Warning: Spoilers
A very disappointing film dealing with the autistic Temple Grandin, who despite her handicap, went on to earn a Ph.D

If you close your eyes, you would think that Claire Danes was doing an impersonation of the old Carol Burnett Shows.

The film is quite choppy. Grandin's high school and college years go by quite quickly. We observe the autistic child as socially maladjusted. Yet, she is able to give the valedictory address at high school.

Perhaps, the last 20 minutes of the film is the best since the Grandin character explains to an audience how she was able to cope with her autism and achieve so much.

Claire Danes does an adequate job as the autistic girl, who learned to talk with a high pitched voice. As the award people always go for people with handicaps, expect Ms. Danes to be walking down the aisles of Emmy and Golden Globe.

In a supporting role, David Strathairn portrays an understanding science teacher. With his wonderful support, Ms. Grandin was able to achieve. Yet, she is unable to cope at his funeral years later.

The film showed how the Grandin character was able to put to use effectively, her intuitiveness and understanding that we as a society could never cope with.

The film is terribly cliché and needed much more of her earlier years. Why didn't HBO include more of the early years when they could have shown what her mother went through? Why are we constantly making movies that exploit the handicaps of people? This film was strands of information put together to convey a message. Even the students who made fun of Temple were restrained. Believe me, in a regular classroom, she would have faced harsher treatment.
