Who said the age old pharmoolah don't work no more
6 July 2008
I had to wait for around 4 hrs to catch this movie, the earlier show had sold out and I was a tad little late reaching the multiplex. But it was a Sunday, I didn't have anything better to do, and the weekend had to end on a high note for me. When I emerged out of the cinema hall, I had this big smile on my face. This movie has some of the most amazing camera work done in Hindi cinema recently. Fortunately enough for the movie it doesn't try and be a "Road to Perdition", where there's only the wide angle shots, and lavishly colored sets that narrate the story. This movie encapsulates within itself, a raw innocence that every viewer would affiliate himself with. Typical to any successful Hindi movie, the ost of "Jane tu.." movie is amazing, and each of the song sequences in the movie have their own part of the story to tell. The actors are immensely young and sometimes it shows they are acting. But they seem so adorable together, you tend to give them that extra latitude. Some of the plot direction and narration would seem very familiar to you on first glance. "Forget Paris", for one, in regards to the narrative style of the movie. "Love Actually", in regards to the dash Rats(Imran) makes to let aditi(Genlia) know that he loves her right at the climax. The story is time tested and failed on most occasions. Amazingly, it works for 'Jane tu....'. My opinion, this movie should transcend language barriers, and should be regarded for what it truly is, enjoyable cinema.

PS: Special mention here goes to Ratna Pathak Shah. She excels at her role as an intelligent, corky but mostly as a loving mother.
