The Christmas Tree (1996 TV Movie)
10/10
Why oh why is this a forgotten movie?
1 January 2008
ABC needs to pull their finger out and get this released on DVD as it is a wonderful, warm, festive movie that oozes sentiment.

Andrew McCarthy plays the part of Richard Reilly who is the head gardener at New York's Rockefeller Center. Reilly (McCarthy) is responsible for searching for the perfect annual Christmas tree for the Rockefeller Center and finds the very tree in the grounds of a convent in Bush Creek.

Julie Harris plays the part of Sister Anthony who has grown up with the Norway spruce that she calls 'Tree' and has a bond so strong with it that she is reluctant to see it torn down and used as a tourist attraction in the City.

Then begins Sister Anthony's story of how she was an orphan, how she came to be at that convent and how she formed such a strong allegiance with 'Tree' This is a wonderfully acted, warm, sentimental film directed by Sally Field that somehow has been overlooked by someone somewhere (Shame you!) Originally shown on Disney in 1996 it appears to have been lost in time. If anyone from Fogwood Films/ABC or Disney is reading this do us all a great big favour....

Give this film the recognition it deserves and release it on DVD! Let 2008 be the year that we can own a proper copy of this heart-warming movie.
