'V' the odd one
17 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
'V' the odd one more like! Plenty of good scenes and whilst the direction is a bit loose and the music erratic (Vangelis!!) the camera work is excellent and there is such a good cast. Annette Haven is perfect throughout both in and out of her sex scenes, but the movie is uneven and the use of doubled shots to extend the running time further upsets the balance. The film toys with dodgey subjects including, housewife prostitution, incest and rape and gets away with it but it is the downbeat ending that is such a surprise. After all her escapades with strangers, orgies and the brothel, Annette appears to have found a new romance and boldly leads the long haired lad to a hotel room. I was as open mouthed as she when all he does is grab her bag and run off. She then phones her husband and tells him she is leaving him and is left freeze framed in a sleazy hotel hallway with her mother's words from her childhood echoing around her, 'Little whore'. A morality tale for the porno crowd?!
