Review of Shutter

Shutter (II) (2004)
7/10
There's a change that even with regret, cannot be undone.
19 September 2005
Shutter reminded me very much of Leslie Cheung's last movie, Inner Senses without the happy ending.

Shutter was more jump scares then anything else while retaining the emotion evocative of The Eye.

The directing was really good, and I liked how they incorporated the most well known spirit photos into the storyline to help build the plot.

The scares were very cliché, pulling motifs from all over the Asian horror genre, from The Ring, The Eye, Inner Senses, and Ju-On, this movie is meant to make you jump, and it does.

A lesson that you cannot run from the past, you must embrace it and make amends where we have wronged or hurt those whose trust we have betrayed.

The plot is complete, which is a rare thing in horror movies. It creates substantial tension, backs off beautifully, then when you think it's over it takes you deeper.

"Sometimes spirits long for their loved ones." This movie may be about longing, but it is also about absolution, loss and regret.
