The Rotten Fruit (2003 Video)
A bit too crude for most people's tastes and occasionally just relies on swearing and gore but generally they have enough genuine laughs to get by

The Rotten Fruit are one of the most popular bands in the world but also one of the most violent and foul-mouthed. We follow their adventures as they compete in a battle of the bands, try to stop their music being given away for free on the Snackster and trying to completely trash a fancy London hotel in true rock'n'roll fashion.

Made by the director of the film Cabin Fever, this is a rather weird series of short animations that will certainly not appeal to everyone. The sense of humour is very crude and relies on lots of swearing, gory effects and crude jokes. At some points this reliance is a bit of a pain and it comes across like it was made by a couple of teenagers who just think swearing is funny. However once you get past this (or get hardened to it – not sure which) then it is actually quite funny in a rather silly way.

The band are mostly English for some reason and the films also take heavy swipes at things like boy bands, rock'n'roll and the website Napster. Most of it is rather childish but it is still quite funny and worth seeing. The gore is quite funny at times and not at others – but the overall effect is good. Generally I enjoyed these three short film, although the Napster one was by far the best of the three (with the boy band one a close second). If you're renting the Cabin Fever DVD then these little cartoons are a very welcome addition to your night's entertainment.
