Munir Hussain was a film playback singer in Pakistan during the 1950s - 1970s time period. He sang over 300 songs for 163 films. His maternal uncle (Maamoon), the renowned film music director Rashid Attre and his cousin, another renowned film music director Safdar Hussain played instrumental roles in introducing him to the Pakistani film world in 1957. So he did come from a family of musicians. His uncle had him rehearse to perfection, his first super-hit film song " Qaraar Lootanay Waalay Tu Qaraar Ko Tarsay" ,lyrics by Saifudin Saif for his film Saath Laakh (1957) and Munir Hussain shot to fame as this song became hugely
popular among the public. In the same year 1957, his cousin Safdar Hussain had him sing some songs for a Punjabi language film Nooran (1957) that also became hit songs. Then came films like Mukhra (1958), Koel (1959), Gulfam (1961), Aulad (1962), Tauba (1963) and Heer Ranjha (1970) . He sang many popular film songs in these films. Since he had some classical music training behind him, film music directors used to select him for semi-classical songs. He did a decent amount of playback singing for about 20 years but never reached a big star status as his contemporaries Salim Raza , Masood Rana and Ahmed Rushdi did who became more popular than him. He died on
27 September 1995 and left behind many many popular hit songs to remember him by.
