PlayStation has given its fans some very exciting games over the years. But their first-party studios are mostly known for developing some very story-heavy games. These titles would feature a linear progression system, which does not give fans much freedom in exploration. But the developer of Ghost of Tsushima changed this.
A truly open-world game where players can go anywhere and do anything. It took some ideas from this developer’s previously released Infamous series of games. The idea of walking two paths was described in this game as the path of a ghost or a samurai. And now, years after this game’s launch, some suggest that they can use this idea to take this franchise in a whole new direction.
Ghost of Tsushima 2 could do much better with a potential New Protagonist

Sucker Punch and Sony’s Ghost of Tsushima still lingers in the minds of its fans even four years after its launch. The game introduces players to a breathtaking portrayal of feudal Japan. Besides, the intriguing tale of Jin Sakai transforming into a backstabbing warrior of darkness from a respected Samurai is hard to get out of the mind.
The fans are now sitting with great anticipation for the sequel. Although the developers have not yet officially announced Ghost of Tsushima 2, given the success of the first game, the sequel is likely to happen.
Ghost of Tsushima
Earlier the fans assumed that the game would naturally be called Ghost of Tsushima 2, just as most sequels are numbered. However, keeping in mind the ending of the first game looks like Ghost of Tsushima 2 may never happen (not literally!).

The number of actors the Netflix TV series Cobra Kai has brought back to reprise their characters from the Karate Kid films has been very impressive. Not only do you have Ralph Macchio and William Zabka back as Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence, but there’s also Martin Kove and Thomas Ian Griffith as villains John Kreese and Terry Silver, Yuji Okumoto and Sean Kanan as villains-turned-allies Chozen Toguchi and Mike Barnes; Ron Thomas, Rob Garrison, and Tony O’Dell as Johnny’s former Cobra Kai buddies; and appearances by Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills, Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko, and Robyn Lively as Jessica Andrews. They even brought Traci Toguchi back as Yuna, the “Girl Bell Ringer” she played in The Karate Kid Part II. But one actor who might not be returning from the films is Hilary Swank, who played Julie Pierce in the 1994 film The Next Karate Kid.

Japanese indie pop band Chai have announced their breakup after more than 10 years. In a social media statement, the quarter wrote that they will “eternalize Neo Kawaii” (part ways as a band), following a farewell tour of Japan.
“To continue our journey of self-love, as Chai have always said, and to continue to fulfill our own personal visions, we have decided to go our separate ways,” Chai wrote. “We are so sorry to surprise you with this news. Chai would never have been able to travel the world without all of your support, and we cannot thank you enough for the love and courage you have given us.”
Chai went on to say that each member of the group “will continue to represent and spread Neo Kawaii in our own individual ways” after they “travel Japan on our last tour to give Love to all of our Neo Kawaii Babies one last time.

This Cobra Kai article contains spoilers for season 5.
Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), and Sensei Kreese (Martin Kove) aren’t the only carry overs from the original three Karate Kid films. Far from it, Cobra Kai has been masterfully tapping its source by bringing back cast members from the movies, regularly serving the fans up with colorful Easter eggs.
Some of the original characters, like Lucille Larusso (Randee Heller), Daniel’s mom, have appeared throughout Cobra Kai. She has been seen in seasons 1, 2, and 4, which is more than she was seen in the latter two Karate Kid films. The original Cobra Kai gang from The Karate Kid Part I, Bobby (Ron Thomas), Jimmy (Tony O’Dell), and Tommy (Rob Garrison) were reunited with Johnny in season 2 in one of the most poignant episodes of the entire show – the death of Tommy. It’s an emotional irony when the...

Two grandees of Japanese animation adapt a Nahoko Uehashi fantasy novel that covers too much ground to take flight
A key animator on numerous classics including Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Your Name, Masashi Ando teams up with Masayuki Miyaji, another Studio Ghibli veteran, to co-direct this sprawling adaptation of Nahoko Uehashi’s fantasy novel series. This long-awaited endeavour, however, lacks the directorial deftness that has elevated their previous credits.
Stretching itself thin to cover the lengthy source material, The Deer King is laden with meandering, expository details. A tale of conflict between the Aquafa and the Zol peoples as a plague rages runs parallel to a spiritual journey towards healing. After breaking out of prison, Van, an enslaved Aquafa resistance fighter, finds the loss of his wife and child softened by Yuna, an orphaned toddler whom he rescues during his escape. Though bitten by the same rabid dogs that spread the deadly disease,...

The uneven Japanese animated fantasy “The Deer King” often resembles the sort of Studio Ghibli action-adventure that made animation figurehead Hayao Miyazaki internationally famous, especially “Princess Mononoke” and “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.” “The Deer King” not only looks like those Studio Ghibli staples, but also follows a plot that recalls Ghibli-style high fantasies: two warring feudal kingdoms try either to capture or enlist Van, a resourceful ex-soldier who may or may not be immune to a devastating plague.
Comparisons between “The Deer King” and Studio Ghibli’s better known movies seem inevitable, especially given how many of this movie’s creators learned their trade as animators and animation directors at Studio Ghibli, particularly co-directors Masashi Ando and Masayuki Miyaji, and key animators Kenichi Konishi and Kenichi Yoshida. Thankfully, what works in so many Ghibli movies also mostly works in “The Deer King,” given the craft and consideration...

Only a year after Min Jin Lee’s original novel was published in 2017 and became a New York Times bestseller, Apple acquired rights to Pachinko to turn it into series. The bet paid off, as the eight-episode drama, with Soo Hugh as writer, showrunner and executive producer, became a worldwide hit, scoring big enough numbers that Apple announced a Season 2 renewal on the day the Season 1 finale premiered on the streamer.
Pachinko‘s pilot episode is the latest installment of It Starts On the Page, Deadline’s annual series that highlights the scripts that serve as the creative backbones of the buzzy shows that will define the now-underway TV awards season. The scripts in our series are all being submitted for Emmy Awards consideration this year and have been selected by Deadline using criteria that includes critical acclaim, selecting from a wide range of networks and platforms, and a mix of established and lesser-known shows.

The multigenerational saga of Pachinko will continue at Apple TV+, which has renewed the family drama for a second season. The series comes from creator/showrunner Soo Hugh and executive producers Theresa Kang-Lowe and Michael Ellenberg.
The renewal comes before the season one finale, titled “Chapter Eight,” will be available to stream globally Friday on Apple TV+.
Pachinko, based on the 2017 bestseller by Min Jin Lee, stars Oscar winner Youn Yuh-jung, Minha Kim, Lee Minho, Jin Ha and more. The drama follows four generations of a Korean immigrant family who fight to realize their dreams across Korea, Japan and America. The main protagonists are Zainichi Koreans, ethnic Koreans who came to Japan during Japanese colonial rule of Korea, and their descendants, who faced discrimination and marginalization. It was as important to creator and executive producer Soo Hugh to think about what “Pachinko” wasn’t as what it is. The series is a story that spans several generations of Korean immigrants, centered around matriarch Sunja, played variously by Yu-na Jeon, Minha Kim, and Youn Yuh-jung at different points in time. As she discusses in this episode of the Filmmaker’s Toolkit podcast, Hugh could imagine how 99 percent of the world would create an adaptation of the novel, and wanted to lean into the 1 percent difference. Working with directors Kogonada and Justin Chon, Hugh developed a sense of style and tone that avoided the glossy, removed, traditionally epic look of a Masterpiece Theater piece and instead chased ways of storytelling from framing and composition to the rhythm and pauses in the edit that felt as in-the-moment as the characters’ emotions are to them.

The ambitious Apple TV+ series “Pachinko” took 20 historical consultants from the United States, Korea and Japan, numerous translators, seven executive producers, two directors, two directors of photography, and 637 cast members to put together – 95 of whom are Asian. Directors Kogonada and Justin Chon split the first season in half, each directing four episodes, and it’s a testament to their collaborative vision that the show has drawn raves for its painterly aesthetic.
Lee’s novel tells the story of four generations, with one woman — Sunja — at the core. The show captures Sunja at three distinct points in her life: young childhood (Yu-na Jeon), teenage and young adulthood (Minha Kim), and older Sunja as a grandmother (Youn Yuh-jung).
Apple TV+
Korean-American filmmaker Kogonada, who helmed the acclaimed films “Columbus” and “After Yang” and directed episodes one, two, three and seven of “Pachinko,” related to the diasporic element of the story due to his family history.

Usually epic stories need to involve a dragon of some kind, or at least a healthy amount of fantastic CGI. But “Pachinko,” the new Apple TV+ series created by Soo Hugh and directed by Kogonada and Justin Chon, sets out to be an epic about ordinary human stories. Those are, if you give them the proper scope, quite big enough. The series switches seamlessly between three languages — English, Korean, and Japanese — to tell the story of a family of Korean immigrants to Japan (and America) led by matriarch Sunja, who is played as a child by Yu-na Jeon, as an adult by Minha Kim, and as a grandmother by Youn Yuh-jung.

A mother tearfully packs her teenage daughter’s few belongings, sending her off to a new life in a strange land in 1931. This wrenching moment is intercut with a scene nearly 60 years later, when the daughter is now a wizened grandmother, packing to return to visit her native country of Korea. Such echoes are common in Pachinko, creator-producer Soo Hugh’s shimmeringly gorgeous and emotionally engrossing adaptation of Min Jin Lee’s acclaimed 2017 novel about Koreans displaced by the Japanese occupation of the early 20th century. The central character, played by three remarkable actresses over a roughly 70-year span, is Sunja, the only surviving child of peasant parents who operate a boarding house in a Korean fishing village. A carefree but observant youth (Yu-na Jeon), Sunja becomes a pensive, hardworking adolescent (Minha Kim) who allows herself to dream, falling under the spell of Hansu (Lee Min-ho), a smitten fish merchant...

Apple has revealed a featurette for the series Pachinko, based on the bestselling book of the same name. Streaming on Apple TV+ starting next week. Epic in scope and intimate in tone, the story begins with a forbidden love and crescendos into a sweeping saga journeying between Korea, Japan and America to tell an unforgettable story of war and peace, love and loss, triumph and reckoning. The series stars Soji Arai as Mozasu, Jin Ha as Solomon, Inji Jeong as Yangjin, Minha Kim as teenage Sunja, Lee Minho as Hansu, Kaho Minami as Etsuko, Steve Sanghyun Noh as Isak, Anna Sawai as Naomi, Junwoo Han as Yoseb, Jung Eun-chae as Young Kyunghee, Jimmi Simpson as Tom, Yu-na Jeon as young Sunja, and Academy Award-winning actress Yuh-Jung Youn as Sunja. I love this idea of clearly connecting themes across generations.

Very often, TV adaptations of books naturally play out like fixed objects. There’s a built-in framework for an episodic journey that fulfills what’s on the page as an exercise in transposing. Aside from the emotional richness of the new Apple TV+ series “Pachinko,” it becomes apparent very quickly that what sets this eight-episode season apart is that it plays out more as a collective memory than a written history. Drawing from Min Jin Lee’s sprawling bestselling novel, which traces the fate of a Korean family across multiple countries and generations, “Pachinko” is a gorgeous drama built around observing both the crisp and hazy all at once. It’s a century-spanning tale that draws on the untidy nature of remembering the past to fashion an experience all its own.
