The Ghost Sonata
audaciousness20 April 2019
This was definitely my favorite episode of the series yet. So far, a lot of the storyline has been mainly establishing the characters and the setting - and it got a little slow and tedious at times. However, things really pick up as the mystery deepens in "The Ghost Sonata", an episode which is as suspenseful as it is darkly comedic - a trait that the old Pretty Little Liars was famous for.

We finally got some pitch-perfect Mona scenes here, which are a lot more remnant of how she used to be, and I really enjoyed them. Alison is also back to her old brave, fearless self and I'm loving every moment of it. The writers also did a good job of making us care for the New Liars in this installment, something that I wasn't completely sold on before now.

I give "The Ghost Sonata" a 10/10.

Finally found Taylor

Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Ava, Caitlin and Dylan, they try to find out who killed Nolan. A is back, he/she texted Caitlin. Mona found Ray Hagadorn his hideout. Alison sees Taylor. Taylor locked up Alison. Solid Episode of Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, this was a sloppy episode with so many storylines at the same time.

A is back? (theory about the murderer, PLL SPOILERS)

Warning: Spoilers
Although I thought it was a little too in-your-face a few times, I really enjoyed seeing the creative team mess around with Ava's character both this episode and the previous ones. It's so clear that they're reflecting the same clues, that made everyone believe Aria was A in PLL. The looking into mirrors, the red coat, the "A" text, the mysterious background, scratching face over in drawing of a girl looking like her (from the promo of next episode), even looking like Aria down to her dark, edgy clothing style and dark nails. And there are even a few nods to Mona in that she's a tech nerd, knows her stuff, and is the most suspicious of others of all of them, besides Mona ofc. I don't think they'll actually go down the split personality route or anything like it. But it's nice to see the nods, also making us question whether or not we can even trust our protagonists.

(!!!MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE PERFECTIONISTS BOOKS, KILLER REVEAL!!!) In the second instalment of the Perfectionists books, we also learn that the murderer is one of the girls, whom took over the personality of a dead friend she still saw as alive. At least that's what I've understood from what I've heard. This was a character who is not in the show (yet?), but we know from PLL that Marlene was faithful to the books with Mona being A, and the whole twin thing was also based on very identical stories in the books, and several other important plot points and reveals. I feel pretty safe to say, that if Ava's not the one with a split personality, somebody else are probably suffering from that. This whole mystery past, her having lost both her parents but has got all their money, and now her dad might be back ... it's a bit too on your nose for a suspect, but then again, who knows? The dad (or mom, I don't remember what happened to her) might return and be Ava's hallucination - maybe that's why she gets more flashbacks than any other character, maybe that's the dead friend from the book, whose identity she adapts. There's still so much to uncover, but MAN is it nice being back at it again with the theorizing! (!!!SPOILER SECTION OVER!!!)

Suspect list thus far. ;) 1. Ava? 2. Taylor. 3. Andrew. Wildcard: Zoe - giving major PLL S1 Mona vibes, but possibility depends on how much she'll appear in the next episodes. Obvious one (I don't hope for): Jeremy. Like Ezra, but seriously this one screams predator and serial killer even louder. Lmao. Would not at all be surprised.

[5.7] Who watches the watchers?!

The same flow with different development. Problematic at its core with childish suspense.
