Bad Wilderness Medicine re-enactment
pjoffrion-416632 July 2016
Tuned in late (90 minutes in) though caught the gist of the situation and found out more online. Deeply moving successful rescue coordination on the part of the courage of Danielle, near inexplicable devotion of Taz, and the persistence of the rescue team. I cringed when the (re-enacted) First Responder reached Danielle and lifted her neck to assist her in getting a drink. I doubt that this is what the actual First Responder did. When mechanism of injury and extent of injury is unknown, a first real step, excluding impending hazards (fire, toxic chemicals, other imminent dangers), is to not move the victim at all in any way, and to 'immobilize' the spinal column. To move the victim as shown in the re-enactment is to risk possibility of paralysis if a spinal injury has previously occurred. ABC does a dis-service to its viewers to permit this degree of slip-shod representation of First Responder care.
