A Learning Experience

I think that this episode was put out to be a commentary on the treatment of the deaf. Yes, all who have classic disabilities face the prejudices and judgments of the less educated. This episode is rather heavy handed, but it does make a point. The second story involves a multiple killing at a restaurant owned by a mobster. The conclusion is a great puzzle solved.

The Deaf and the Pregnant

When two young women call the police to tell that they hit a man on the dark street, Grissom concludes that the man was dead when they run over him. Meanwhile, Catherine informs Grissom that she will go with Nick to investigate a mass murder of five people in a cafeteria, where a notorious mobster was killed. Grissom, Sara and Warrick learn that the victim was deaf but was assaulted before the hit. Meanwhile, Catherine and Warrick find that one of the attendants was pregnant, and discover who the target was and who the side effect of the crime spree was.

"Sounds of Silence" is another good episode of "CSI", with two storylines. The plot with the deaf man is very well resolved by Grissom, while Catherine and Warrick need to change their perspective to understand what really happened in the coffee shop. My vote is seven.

Incorrect conclusion based on biases of deaf

Warning: Spoilers
Odd how the writers convey that because a young deaf man is killed, he's killed because he was thought different by his killers. If the killers do not know he is deaf, how do they kill him for that difference. I didn't like this episode for this slant, I thought it all wrong. He was killed because he didn't react to the young men, he didn't indicate he didn't hear them. Big difference to be targeted or to be reacting differently than someone expects. Just didn't like the whole premise and the character of the deaf school's director. ugh.
