Shrinking (2023)
Constantly Over-Scored with Lame PopMusic
I kinda like this series... there's some good comedic writing. I like the characters and the actors. But the CONSTANT pushing of light, poppy tracks is not only distracting, but truly annoying. Occasional silence is a powerful thing. The Music. Rarely. Breaks.
Also, it's all a stream of amusing liners without a break. Comedy is more effective if a full emotional bandwidth is allowed. One gets fatigued if the joke never ends.
We're talking about grief, trauma, and loss, but not with any balance or depth. I do think it's possible to let people feel these things for more than a nuance- and still be hilarious.
But like the main character, the series doesn't want to "do the work".
Light end of the pool. Ok. Don't think I'll make it through a binge, that's for sure.
Brothel (2008)
So Bad, It Just Might be Good...
Add cocktails, quippy friends and an atmosphere conducive to clever heckling and this film could morph into a cult classic.
DRINKING GAME(S)
1) Character's accent changes- DRINK
2) Incongruous, befuddling edit- DRINK
3) So many opportunities. Pick your own. DRINK
Warning: When utilizing this film for the purpose of drinking games, inadvertent bingeing to toxic levels likely. Small sips recommended as unit of measure.
On Amazon, this film had Five Stars. Either we've been pranked, or many fellow film cultists out there agree...
