A much needed comedy
kenjenkins-831367 March 2020
You can only watch Letterkenny, Archer, Workaholics, and Sunny so many times. TV needed a new edgy comedy and Dave is just that. Its smart, its crude, and it is really funny.

Satisfyingly Hilarious

First two episodes were quirky, awkward and awesome! I was not a huge Lil Dicky fan, I am a 40 year old who only knew or liked 2-3 songs of his from a few years ago. After getting a gander of this funny dude and AMAZING rapper in action, I will be digging deeper into his catalogue and watching every episode. From one Dave to another 👍🏼 👍🏼 Hope this show picks up a ton of viewers and sticks around.

Season 2 will make you hate Dave
chancenconnect1 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what it is exactly but I absolutely loved season 1 and now it's like in season 2 he's got so much hate coming at him it makes you believe he's a narcissistic awkward jerk.

I never laugh but I laughed out loud
mary-5603712 March 2020
Tv these days don't make me laugh as much as it used to and "Dave" can be a bit much especially the 2nd episode about the "fmesilly" blow up doll, but in the end made me laugh so hard I mean a good hard belly laugh. Has great music and beats and l love hearing some new lil dicky but this show is brilliant!! Definitely for viewers over 18, and I wouldn't watch it with your parents or anything but man we needed this show! I find myself upset after the new one that I have to wait a whole week!

This show doesn't suck but most of these reviews do.
ForrestRivers12 August 2021
I just had to review to stick up for Dave, wow some of these reviews are just not accurate. Loved season 1, almost through season 2 after reading reviews bagging out how bad it is. People need to get a grip, this is one of the most creative, well articulated shows of recent memory. Season 2 is just as good as 1, completely different so much deeper, emotionally engaging and strange but still a creative masterpiece! Sit back, relax, get weird, have a few laughs, don't look to much into things and enjoy. Can't wait for season 3. I love Dave and everything about it. Great show. (ps. Some of you obviously aren't comfortable with your sexuality calling Lil Dicky gay, that's bromance comedy bro)

"Curb" for a new generation
austinhord799 March 2020
The first two episodes available delivered the satisfying humor reminiscent of Seinfeld and Curb. Dicky has not only shown off his impressive acting range this far, but also his clever and hard-hitting bars all add to a fun and edgy comedy.

Hilarious and Smart
mjz-369897 July 2022
I went to camp with this guy from like 2000 to at least 2004 (Dave Burd - Nova '04 lol) although I was three years younger. He really was sort of famous at camp and would get called up for the talent shows at Camp Kweebec in Schwenksville, PA( not Lebec) even if he hadn't signed up.

One summer, the summer that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Came out, for his act he came up to the stage with the book underarm then slowly sat down, Indian style, and took out the book and proceeded to read aloud the final chapter to the entire camp at large. When everyone realized what he was doing literally the entire camp, especially the younger kids, stuck their fingers in their years and started doing whatever they could to drown him out. But he persevered for quite a while until I think the owner of the camp came up to boot him off. I was one of the the kids moaning with my fingers in his ears but looking back it was actually one of the funniest things anyone could do for a talent act. Legendary! His other acts were mostly comedy or rap performances or a combination. I remember another summer for a talent act Senior Camp had just been to an Usher concert and I don't really remember the act he did I just remember him and his stage partner being completely decked out in ghetto swag garb they had purchased from the concert and just doing a hardcore rap. Which is funny in and of itself but when you also realize these are teenage/tweenage white Jewish priveledged kids from suburban Philadelphia and New Jersey mainly (also shout out to Baltimore/Potomac area) it's makes it's ironic and probably more funny to some people but less funny to other. Anyway everyone had fun at camp. Great pls d great times. And it spawns talent.

Fun Fact: Another "famous" camp Kweebec alumna - Abbi Jackobson of Broad City.

I think Dave's acting performance is great but it almost isn't "acting." He is being his true Jewish neurotic self and it's just great to see how he has somehow packaged those traits into something so entertaining and fun to watch.

Who am I?
angie_mpeg22 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
S1 left me craving for more and Dave sure as hell live up to the expectations in S2. Dave is funny, artistic, dramatic and egocentric AF. Maybe it's because of all the Kanye references but he really reminded me of Ye. I see a lot of people here hating on dicky, calling him a narcistische nerd but what if the whole point of these series is, just as Kanye did on Donda; shine a light on redemption. Who are we to judge? Is this series about a kid trying to make it as a rapper or is it about a schizophrenic guy working a boring office job having a psychotic episode? It made me relate a lot and left me questioning my own existence.

Season 1 great, Season 2... below average
skylermoore9 May 2022
Season 1 of Dave was some surprisingly great stuff. There was a direction and a plot that felt real. A great cast who all seemed to have a purpose and chemistry. There's emotional stuff to care about... It really was something memorable and fun. A great surprise to me. 8/10

Season 2 of this kind of throws all of that away and goes another direction... The plot is messy, it's boring and nothing much happens. Which in a way is what it's trying to do but to pretend that writing in this isn't really bad is lying to yourself. Everything unique and interesting in season 1 was replaced by tropey middle school jokes and tropey story telling. It really felt like it was meant to just fill the air and they weren't sure where to take it. By the end of season 2 I think it landed in a good spot and finally found something good. Unfortunately it takes way to long to get to this point and season 2 was an unfortunate swing and miss. It's below average. 4/10

Overall given both seasons a 6/10... right in the middle is probably the most fair rating. Season 1 is very good tv but Season 2 is massive misfire. If there is more to come I hope it goes back to its roots.

Hi I'm Dave
shaunmcevoy-9883325 January 2021
Where's this absolute gem been hiding? A show about and starring Lil Dicky I was onboard from minute 1, he's a hilarious rapper. This is truly a great show that had me in stitches and with some really touching scenes too, I can't recommend this enough it's honestly a superb tv show and I can't wait for season 2. I think other than Dave the best character is Gata that guy is so funny and in the episode about his Bi polar is acting goes to another level completely, what an incredible performance.

If you like Lil Dicky, you'll like this show
jester2055-113-9545866 March 2020
I am actually surprised how well this guy can act, I mean he is playing himself so that's not a big leap but he's really good.

If you don't like his self deprecating music you probably won't like this show. I'm giving this one a chance and so far it's better than a lot of other current comedy options.

What happened?!?!
kpetow-9400528 June 2021
Season 1 was AMAZING! I was sooo excited for season 2 but what happened? It's no longer funny and is more uncomfortable than anything. When I watched episode 1 of season 2 I thought ok maybe they are just seeing up the story line but by episode 3 I was to disgusted to finish. I how it turns around and goes back to how season 1 was.

Bad reviews before the Finale?
leehollindale27 August 2021
So shocked to see people writing this season off before it had even ended. The performances were absolutely stellar. Please watch all of the episodes before casting judgement. Congratulations to all involved, this was a fantastic piece of work. So much deeper than I could have imagined, or expected.

FUN, HIP & HILARIOUS
AlexandraaBuena4 March 2020
A series that doesn't hold back the realities of what it's like to reach stardom as a rapper.

Be ready for sexual, racy jokes. Just don't take it too seriously and enjoy the beats Lil Dicky makes throughout the series.

Stop the hate
briangoins-594725 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
All of these negative reviews are misleading, yes season was 1 was better and it's hard to follow that up but this season is about Dave going through a writers block a sort of depression because the might not say it but he does miss Ally which is the most reason he can't write. This season has been more emotional and doesn't have the same laughs but is just as good.

I watched expecting to laugh but at times felt more like crying
andersonsonger15 August 2021
I've never written a review for anything until now so that proves how much I loved watching Dave. I've been a lil dicky fan for some time and knew him for his childlike humor, so I was thoroughly surprised when I found myself on the edge of my seat with my heart racing. The show is so perplexing and kept me on my toes the entire time. It really is an innovative piece of entertainment and I've never watched anything quite like it.

cmurphy-255086 March 2020
Not only is it hilarious but he's actually a great rapper and not just on the show but in real life. If you watch the two episodes that are currently available I highly recommend YouTubing his music. The song earth is not that funny and is sub par even though there are 30 singer/rappers on it it. However don't let that detour you. It's a great show and he's a great rapper, definitely more satirical then literal, I hope he comes out with a couple songs that are a little less comedic but either way, I've said it once and I'll say it again great rapper and great comedian. If you like comedy watch this show, if you like rap, watch this show. If you run out of good tv watch this show! I'm kind of mad there wasn't a complete season when I started watching this! I would binge watch the frick out of this bananas bullshish.

Amazing show
srdjankostic9130 April 2022
Such an amazing series, with great writing, characters and humor. Season 1 is really hilarious and fresh, gets you invested really quickly. As I can see, season 2 is really criticized here, but those people apparently didn't watch the whole season. It's not as funny as the first, but it makes up with great dramatic moments. It gets progressively better and will make you teary in the end. Definitely a recommendation, hopefully the season 3 will find a perfect comedy-drama balance.

Really funny and really good
FeastMode19 August 2020
Season 1: 8 stars (2 viewings, 8/18/2020, 8/8/2021)

This show made me max-volume-laugh numerous times, so many parts are absolutely hysterical. Pushes limits like I love. And even ignoring the comedy, it's surprisingly good with some great acting and really moving moments. My only downside with the show is some unnecessary relationship drama in a couple of the episodes, including one side-story episode. It's odd because I feel like I said the exact same thing about Atlanta, including the side-story episode. Possibly the same creators?

Season 2: 6 stars (1 viewing, 8/11/2021)

I ended the season 1 review comparing it to how I felt about Atlanta. This show seems to be taking the same route in season 2. SIGNIFICANTLY less funny. And WAY more drama. Some people may like that. But I came here for the comedy with some heart and emotion. Instead I'm getting drama and emotion with an occasional laugh.

And it also does the thing I don't like where major story elements are not continued into the next episode. They're not inconsequential, but they just move onto something new to start the next episode.

Season 3: 7 stars (1 viewing, 7/8/2023)

A nice bounce-back from season 2. And I legitimately can't believe some of the celebrities featured in this season. "We made it" is an understatement for Lil Dicky.

Best Show I've Seen In A Long Time!!
theoriginaljonas13 August 2021
I NEVER write reviews, but his show is so Brilliant, I felt compelled to. So Funny, So Original, So Honest! I have cried laughing on several occasions. More importantly, this dude wears his heart on his sleeve! He opens up to the world about some very sensitive issues that most people would be too ashamed and embarrassed to even talk about with a friend. He's displaying his vulnerabilities and imperfections in an attempt to make others feel ok about their issues. They talk about mental health, sexual health, physical imperfections and try to normalize certain stigmas and stereotypes related to them. This show is incredible all around!! I'm sure the writers are amazing, but I'm truly amazed by Dave Byrd's Creativity, Originality, Boldness, Rapping Ability, and Comedic Sensibilities! Brilliant dude with a bright future!

I was very surprised to see so many negative comments. In all fairness, there are some obvious "woke" moments, and episode 3 of season 2 was a little bit much, but who cares?? Its a comedy show that pushes boundaries, takes chances, and is unapologetic about that. It's people trying to censor creativity who are the problem. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Season 1 was so good what happened?
fpgxvdct18 June 2021
I loved season one, rewatched it's several times, but this season.. I'm having a hard time liking or relating to any of the characters, beside the writers block part. That I get. However, all of it was just hard to watch, it was a dissonant chord with no resolution. Benny Blanco was fun in the first season, but just like his production, it started original and then it turned into rehashed hot garbage. All these dudes carry a certain arrogance that comes through with their acting. They're basically human embodiments of Apple products like "screw you, we know you're going to buy it anyway." They think because they're well established that no effort has to be put into their craft. The whole thing is just lazy.
