Sensible and touching

Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't sure if I should watch this by reading the synopsis.

It caught my attention with the wonderful soundtrack and great acting of most of the cast.

Great movie if you want a light yet profound movie that shows how life can be turned upside down and forgiveness is the only way of moving forward.

Not bad if you have patience

Actually I liked it. A bunch of misfits and soap opera style. I didn't like the ending though but I guess it's symbolic somehow. I find the music is gonna be hard to swallow for not Latin American people but it's good, a kiss from another era. I don't know, maybe the intention is to show that the world is really small for all of the characters are connected. I can't give it maximum stars for it has its flaws, especially because there are some things I couldn't figure out regarding the original conflict. Definitely, not for everyone.

FAIRY TALE
wim-vorster14 August 2023
By fairy tale I don't mean anything facetious. In fact, Paradise Lost has all the ingredients of a wonderful fairy tale: 1. A handsome prince (in fact two princes); 2. A damsel in distress (in fact a gay boy in drag, but not transgender); 3. Another damsel in distress (in fact pregnant and jilted, but beautiful); 4. Two mothers (in fact a real mother and a wannabe) both shrouded in mystery; 5. A king (in fact Jaoa the owner of the club); 6. The king's son and night club performer; 7. Several gallant courtiers (in fact performers) 8. Endearing, racy, saucy, funny moments and in fact stunning Brazilian Portuguese songs.

Lovely lovely.

I don't get it?

Warning: Spoilers
A rag tag bunch of retro misfits gather in a bar and we find out that it IS a small world after all. There are lots of people with lots of connections and I got completely lost in the end. The relationships were all so complicated and I'm still not sure if the lead character, Odair slept with his Aunty or not?

I didn't go much on the singing or the "performances" in general, I don't mean that the acting was bad, because it was ok, but the bar had no talent I would want to go and watch.

I suppose you would call it a family reunion story and that would be the point of the film, but for me it didn't really do anything or go anywhere. I hate having so many answers still left open, especially as I wouldn't want to watch a sequel. I wasn't even going to finish this one, but I'd already turned off two other bad ones and thought that maybe it was my mood and that I should stick to it, but it is just not the sort of film I like or would want to watch ever again.

I can't rate it, because IMDB doesn't give a low enough option. I'd probably say something like 0.13??

Confusing, slow and pointless
qui_j12 September 2021
This Brazilian film is a poorly produced offering with a confusing story. The editing is choppy, with scenes stuck together randomly so as to negate any continuity. Character development is non-existent and one can only wonder what is the point of the movie. Some characters just appear in the film with no explanation or context provided as to who they are or their actual role in the film. Overall, it seems to be targeted to a very specific audience but has little in the way of global appeal.
