Great actors but a tech mess up.
JosChimes27 February 2022
There are some really great actors in this cast, and there are some very important themes and a few very good scenes, but I'm sorry to say it but this was a directorial and tech mess.

The worst of it is the soundtrack which far too often detracts from some decent acting - and also too many scenes are repetitious instead of moving the narrative onwards. The final scenes were also flat and vague where they should have led to a decent conclusion. I'm sure the actors did their best, and in the end I felt very sorry for them, as they had all the talent to give, but this series would have been much better in a tighter 16 or 20 episode format with decent sound and story editing!

What a disappointment!

Warning: Spoilers
Making a movie about dance, dancers and their dreams is quite difficult if the actors are not professional dancers. The young Xin Chen was horrible as someone who studied dance. She was more of a feee-style, someone who loved the dance, but had no physique nor training for it. The older Xin Chen was more ballerina-like, but, she was more of a contemporary dancer. The storyline was messy: too much emphasis on the Uncle, the sister and her goofy model boyfriend. I started fast-forwarding their scenes in the middle episodes. The sickness of the Uncle was way too self-absorbed.

Wallace Chung was way too old next to Aaron Yang (Lin Leqiing) and Shuying Jian (Xin Chen) who were all supposed classmates in school. He came off quite weak overall. Mr. Yang was very natural and had quite a quirky character, but he looked too young. Ms. Jian was good, but should not have been cast as a ballerina. The supporting characters were more interesting, especially the actor who played the funny and talented Uncle Kaiyu.

The ending had to have been THE worst I have seen in a long time!! For a romance, this had none or very little to have me swooning. The writers did not do their research into the dance world and for me, a very big disappointing series.

Unpredictable and intriguing

From the first few episodes, I thought this was just about a self-important female lead who can't forgive the male lead for not putting her above his career. I was about to drop this, but Wallace Chung and the unpredictable plot kept me going.

This is about a US-based movie director Lu Fei (Wallace Chung) who goes back to China to film a movie with a story based on his relationship with budding dancer Xin Chen (Jiang Shu Ying) ten years ago. The filming of the movie gives him a chance to reconnect with his old flame. Will they?
