Saw this recently on a pirated dvd. The moment I read its a Korean film about a serial killer, I bought the dvd without watching the trailer.
God bless the Koreans for making some of the best thrillers.
This is a predictable but entertaining film.
There r no bloody kills n fast paced action. It's a bit humorous regarding old geezers aka senior citizens.
The guy who played the grumpy old landlord acted well. The Alzheimer detective was good too.

THE CHASE is another fine example of the South Korean serial killer genre, with a complex story to keep you on your toes and enough twists and turns to make the outcome totally unguessable. Quality-wise, it's not I SAW THE DEVIL - few films are - but it's still light years ahead of most rival Hollywood fare. There's another weary, unlikely protagonist in the style of THE CHASER's pimp; this one's a belligerent landlord who realises that his tenants are going missing. The trail leads to a spate of brutal murders that took place 30 years previously, sparking fears that a historical serial killer may have resumed his old profession. Like most Korean thrillers, the actors are excellent in their roles and the direction is top notch. There's a good blend of character work, action, bloodshed, and mystery, and it's the kind of film that gets better and better as it goes along, building to a fine edge-of-the-seat climax.

I haven't seen many Korean films but when this serial killer movie was showing on netflix, thought of watching. The acting by the lead actor (old guy as the landlord) is very good and supporting cast also does well. The suspense is maintained till the end.
If you want to see a decent thriller suspense movie, then this is a good watch.

Korean films are renowned for introducing their characters comedy style, regardless of the genre. 'The Chase' is no different. It starts off like a comedy, and quite funny, too. I really got to like the characters this way.
The film very soon turns grim and suspenseful, though, as a serial killer starts preying on innocent victims in a block of flats. Yun-shik Baek is excellent as grumpy landlord Sim Deok-soo, who starts doing his own investigation regardless of the dangers involved. The film sucks you in like a magnet and it kept me glued to the screen. There's a few interesting twists and a very good finale.
Although I enjoyed the film, films like 'The Chaser' and 'I saw the Devil' are much better, so be sure to check them out.

This movie is the kind of movie you would want to watch when you don't have a lot of time to invest on a movie. You can watch it and have a good time and you get a little of the stuff that makes korean movies so interesting.
It's not dark and gritty like lots of korean movies from this genre, sometimes it even feels like a comedy or a parody, but if you go without expecting it to be dark and serious all the time you won't be disappointed by what you're watching.
There are better movies to watch instead of this one? Sure, but is not a bad movie at all.

Oh God I love Korean Movies.
I cannot express it enough.
With English Language films, Japanese or Chinese movies picking a movie will have a 50% outcome of utter dismay, about %25 meh and the rest is a range of mild enjoyment to a great movie.
I picked a random Korean movie and loved it. Really enjoyed it.
Great Characters, Great Story, Great plot where you really are trying to guess the ending.

There is no doubt when it is about Asian movies that the Koreans are doing the best job. I saw plenty of Asian movies and if I had a top ten it would be filled with Korean productions. I won't go that far to pretend that Ban-Deu-Si Jab-Neun-Da (or The Chase) is the best Korean movie I've seen, far from that, but again it's well done with an entertaining story. There are enough elements to make the story mysterious but also believable. The acting is like most of the time not bad, even though the smaller parts are sometimes done by second rank actors. But the main chartacter played by Yun-shik Baek is a good actor. Overacting, or what appears as overacting in Asian movies, is what makes other Asian movies sometimes look stupid. Thats not the case with The Chase. The language is what it is, it sounds like they are always angry, but then again maybe they think that from our language as well. All in all it's a movie worth watching once.

This movie is just another Insane thriller in Korean movies.I have seen a lot of korean thriller movies and not even a single one have disappointed me till this time.This Movies is about a murder who reminance himself like the killer in the past 30years.Never thought an old character would be such a huge lead.Overall The movies is a must watch with humor here and there the movies is Perfect for crime Thriller.

The Chase isn't the greatest entry in South Korean cinema's serial-killer genre but it offers sufficient thrills, suspense, and dark humor to keep it an engaging affair. The first half towers over the second owing to its smooth transition between grisly murders and offhand comedy. The chemistry between the grumpy landlord and the ex-detective with memory issues was fantastic. The supporting cast, including the killer, also does well.
Director Hong-seon Kim tries to add one too many layers to the connected backstory of the detective and the killer but they don't add up to much, other than being well-shot. The end twist also doesn't blow your mind. I believe the director wanted to maintain a lighter tone even when the film dealt with a serious subject. It's safe to say that the efforts have paid off to an extent, if not fully.

To me it felt like a average movie story evolving a serial killer. At first the movie seemed so interesting but ended badly. Story was predictable, nothing new and shocking. Maybe I expect too much from Korean serial killer movies as they are suspensefull and quite interesting but it wasn't much. But I must admit, lead actors did a amazing job.

The Chase is a crime-thriller film directed by Kim Heong-Seon. The movie is about a landowner who helped an ex-detective to chase after the suspect of the 30-year old unsolved murder.
I am a big fan of crime movies. I love how this genre makes me think like I am a detective and joins the protagonist in solving a crime. This film left a strong impression to me and it is definitely worth watching.
I like how each actor portrayed their characters. Sung Dong-Il, of whom I am a big fan of, definitely aced his role. The supporting actors also helped in bringing the story to life. I personally liked how the film is directed. The twistsand turns of the scenes are not confusing. It contributed to my constant thinking of finding who the suspect is.
The cinematography is not exaggerated. The set felt lived-in and believable. Although there are some gross scenes of dead people, it played a big role in making each murder scene realistic.
I loved Sung Dong-Il's character because I never really expected his character in the story. It absolutely surprised me and that really caught my attention to watch the movie until the end.
As a big fan of crime-thriller movies, this film is definitely recommended to those people who love critical thinking when watching movies. Each scene will take you by surprise and would never disappoint you in the end.

Let's start off saying that the cast was great especially the main characters.
The cinematography was also very well done.
The chracter were very well written and are very likeable. But the problem I had with this movie was the story. I felt like they were trying too hard to make the story complicated and complex when it would have been done better if it was simple. The twist was completely unnecessary and ruined the movie for me. It starts off with a believable and realistic story that turned ridiculous and unbelievable, and that bothered me quite a bit. Other than that, this is a Thriller that should be enjoyed by everyone. It's not the best but it's not the worst either. 6/10

A very good South Korean thriller which makes us follow an investigation around mysterious suicides and a serial killer.
Beautiful photography and good staging and actors in the hair, no complaints. if you like the genre go for it.

Every time Korean movies have the same mistake they have a good start for them movies with a very good scenario at the middle of the movie you wait the turning point and finally you wait the perfect end but every time the movie after an hour start with silly events as the writer want to end the movie by anyway

With seniors as the sleuths, a serial killer is on the loose in a small coastal city and the cranky-with-a-heart-of-gold landlord is drawn in, joined by an odd know it all. The ending features a few too many terminator-style recoveries but a good story, nothing given away too soon or overly predictable.
