There have already been several high points on Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 2024 tour, and Sunday night’s show in Columbus, Ohio, provided another one.
The Boss and co. turned in an epic three-hour, 30-song set that saw “Youngstown,” “Streets of Fire,” and “I’m Goin’ Down” all performed live for the first time since at least 2017. The choice to kick off the show with “Youngstown” was especially appropriate as it was written about Youngstown, Ohio, located just two-and-half hours away from Columbus. Meanwhile, “Streets of Fire” has only been performed by Springsteen 23 times since 1978, and not since 2017.

If you needed any proof that Bruce Springsteen is fully recovered from health ailments that derailed his 2023 tour (some of which may or may not have been the result of Larry David), look no further than the performance he and the E Street Band turned in at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California on Thursday night.
The show ran a grand total of three hours and 18 minutes and featured a sprawling 32-song setlist including several tracks that hadn’t been played live in close to a decade. What’s more, Springsteen’s wife, Patti Scialfa, made her first appearance on the 2024 leg of the tour, joining her husband for performances of “Tougher Than the Rest” and “Fire.”

While we await the next feature from triple threat, actor/writer/director Jim Cummings—known for his excellent indies, “Thunder Road,” The Wolf of Snow Hollow” and “The Beta Test”—the actor is still demonstrating he can be a viable lead outside of his own movies too. His latest film is the Western crime feature “The Last Stop In Yuma County,” which features a sprawling indie cast (he’s also an exec-producer on the film) and has been described as “an old-fashioned shoot ’em up.”

Filmmakers Jim Cummings, Pj McCabe and Thomas Cross have teamed up to launch a new independent production studio, Cool & Happy Limited. Cummings and McCabe will serve as the studio’s chief creatives, while Cross will head up production.
“The same team has been making stuff for eight years. We started in shorts and then made three features: ‘Thunder Road’ ‘The Wolf of Snow Hollow’ and ‘The Beta Test,’ most recently,” Cummings says. After enduring the Covid pandemic and last year’s Hollywood labor strikes, things came into perspective for the trio. “These are the people that I actually want to hang out with. It kind of perfectly aligned with what was happening in the industry. It has never been harder to get something through the front door of Hollywood.”

Boondock Saints III: Norman Reedus & Sean Patrick Flanery Returning? ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Despite high expectations for a trilogy following the release of the second Boondock Saints film in 2009, the likelihood of its materializing decreased as difficulties arose. However, there is newfound hope with the confirmation of Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles for the third part.
The revival of the 1999 cult classic film is currently in progress. Known for its thrilling sequences and dynamic choreography, this American vigilante action film is set to return. Thunder Road, recognized for producing the John Wick saga, has joined forces with Dragonfly Films to produce the next installment – or installments – in the Saints saga.
According to Deadline, Basil Iwanyk from Thunder Road Films conveyed excitement about bringing the MacManus brothers back to the screen, intending to enrich the iconic mythology and characters for existing fans and a fresh audience. Finally, Norman...

By the luck of the Irish, a new film in The Boondock Saints series is getting locked and loaded! Deadline says the project is reimagining the brotherly action setup, with Thunder Road, the producer behind John Wick, turning the duo loose on audiences. Thunder Road will partner with Dragonfly Films for the project, with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles from the original films.
Deadline‘s report says Troy Duffy, who helmed the first two films in the series (The Boondock Saints and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day), will not direct the new movie. The Boondock Saints reimagining revolves around the fraternal twin Irish MacManus Brothers, Connor (Flanery) and Murphy (Reedus), finding new Saints to carry their torch. Although he’s relinquishing the director’s chair, Troy Duffy is still in the Boondock Saints business. Rather than shoot the next film in the series, he...

In the wake of 1999 cult favorite The Boondock Saints and 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, a third movie is on the way soon, Deadline reports today.
Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are both set to return in a brand new Boondock Saints movie from Thunder Road and Dragonfly Films, the report indicates.
The new movie is said to be “a reimagining of the action film franchise.” The report this morning continues, “The story will involve the indoctrination of new Saints.”
Troy Duffy, who directed both the 1999 original movie and its 2009 sequel, will not be returning to direct the third installment. However, Deadline notes in their report that “Duffy plans to write a series of books about the Saints, continuing their story that way.”
In the original Boondock Saints, “Two Irish Catholic brothers (Norman Reedus & Sean Patrick Flanery) become vigilantes and wipe out Boston’s criminal underworld in the name of God.

Universal and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions are getting set to unleash director Dev Patel’s Monkey Man, which has been earning rave reviews on the festival scene.

Six months after Bruce Springsteen suspended his world tour so he could recover from a painful peptic ulcer, he was back onstage with the E Street Band Tuesday night in Phoenix, for the first gig of the year. And while the setlist was largely the same as the one he delivered nightly in 2023, he did make some minor alterations, and create space for further additions as the year progresses.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off their 2024 tour with a blazing 29-song performance at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday night. It marked the band’s first performance since Springsteen was forced to postpone the remainder of the band’s 2023 tour due to a bout with peptic ulcer disease.
Thankfully, The Boss now appears to be fully recovered. The 29-song set stuck closely to the epic shows Springsteen played towards the end of his 2023 run, including performances of “Night,” “Darlington County,” “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Spirit in the Night,” “Mary’s Place,” and “Backstreets.” Once again, the encore proved particularly stellar, featuring “Born To Run,” “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Glory Days,” “Dancing in the Dark,” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out.”

Exclusive: Lionsgate’s female-driven John Wick spinoff Ballerina has added David Castañeda (The Umbrella Academy) and Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education) to its cast amid reshoots abroad, Deadline can reveal.
Word of the castings comes at a newsy time in the world of John Wick, as word has emerged of a Wick series in the works, alongside an animated series adaptation of Twilight.
Ballerina watches as a young female assassin (Ana de Armas) trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma seeks revenge against the people who killed her family — as did Wick against those who have did him wrong, in films released between 2014 and 2019. After signing a new deal with Lionsgate expanding his oversight of the John Wick franchise, of which he was the architect, Chad Stahelski is working with Ballerina helmer Len Wiseman to shape new action sequences for the film.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have added a new date to their North American tour.
After their Phoenix, Arizona, show on March 14, they will go to Las Vegas on March 22 to perform at the T-Mobile Arena.
Last September, tour dates were forced to reschedule after Springsteen’s peptic ulcer disease. Shortly after announcing the rescheduled U.S. dates, concert dates for Canada were also declared.
Springsteen began his music career in 1964, but his popularity didn’t rise until 1975, when he and the E Street Band did a ten-show stand over five nights in New York City. Rolling Stone later included the performances in their “50 Moments That Change Rock and Roll” list.
The current tour is scheduled to run until November 22, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.

Chad Stahelski is finally making his long-gestating Highlander movie. The director has been developing the project since 2016, and now has set it as his next film.
Henry Cavill is attached to star in Highlander, a reimagining of the 1986 film of the same name that starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortals who must battle to collect more power. Because as the movie’s tagline goes, “there can be only one” immortal left standing.
Highlander’s green light is part of a sweeping new deal Stahelski and Lionsgate announced Tuesday. The pact will give Stahelski oversight of two franchises: Highlander and John Wick, the latter of which has spanned four films directed by Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves. Those films, and Stahelksi’s stunt-focused 87Eleven Entertainment, have been praised for reinventing the action genre, with the latest installment standing as the series highest grossing with $440 million globally. Dust Bunny: David Dastmalchian joins Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver in Bryan Fuller horror film
Actor David Dastmalchian has an impressive list of credits that includes Late Night With the Devil, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Oppenheimer, The Boogeyman, Dune, The Suicide Squad, the Ant-Man films, Blade Runner 2049, The Belko Experiment, Prisoners, and The Dark Knight, among many others. Now Collider reports that Dastmalchian has joined the cast of Hannibal TV series creator Bryan Fuller’s family-oriented horror project Dust Bunny.
This project was announced last November, not long before we learned that Fuller is also working on a Friday the 13th TV series called Crystal Lake for franchise rights holders Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian (plus Miller’s lawyer Marc Toberoff), A24, and the Peacock streaming service. Dust Bunny went into production earlier this year, with Hannibal himself Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver (Alien) in lead roles.

From The Killer’s church shootout to Mission: Impossible 2’s motorcycle chase, John Woo’s over-the-top action style has been the stuff of legend for many decades, but now, at 77, the Hong Kong filmmaker has changed up his approach, beginning with the virtually dialogue-free revenge thriller Silent Night.
The Joel Kinnaman-led actioner is Woo’s first American film in two decades, an absence he chalks up to no longer being sent quality scripts. On its surface, Silent Night is a classic tale of vengeance, as Kinnaman’s Brian Godlock stops at nothing to avenge the gang-related death of his 7-year-old son. The quest is made all the more intriguing by Godlock’s inability to speak, having suffered a life-altering injury during his failed attempt to go after the offending gang in the immediate aftermath of his son’s death.

John Woo may be one of the masters of action movies, but even he cannot get behind the special effects of the MCU.
The “Face/Off” director told The New Yorker that he refuses to watch superhero movies, and instead opts for “real” films by directors like Martin Scorsese.
“I’ve never liked watching movies with big special effects, or anything based on comic books,” Woo said. “I prefer Martin Scorsese’s movies, that kind of cinema. I can’t wait to watch ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’ I like old-fashioned movies, you know? Real cinema. There aren’t many movies like that lately.”
The “Silent Night” filmmaker added that his film “Bullet in the Head” was “an homage to Martin Scorsese, since I was greatly influenced by his film ‘Mean Streets.'”

All’s quiet the night before Christmas, but John Woo is ready to enter with a bloody bang.
Woo’s first U.S. film in 20 years, “Silent Night,” stars Joel Kinnaman as a dad who witnesses his son die on Christmas Eve amid a shootout. The almost dialogue-less film co-stars Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, and Harold Torres.
The gritty revenge tale follows a tormented father (Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.
The original screenplay is written by Robert Archer Lynn.

As of late, Bruce Springsteen has received some criticism from fans for sticking to a rigid setlist during the E Street Band’s ongoing world tour. No one who attended The Boss’ hometown show in E. Rutherford, NJ on Sunday left complaining though; Springsteen deviated from the tour’s traditional setlist by subbing in seven fan favorites.
Over the course of 28-song performance, Springsteen and E Street Band treated fans to renditions of “Two Hearts,” Something in the Night,” “Spirit in the Night,” “Atlantic City,” “Jungleland,” “Detroit Medley,” and “Jersey Girl.”
All told, it made for easily the best setlist of the tour. The second half of the show was particularly epic, as the band finished the main set with “The Rising,” “Badlands,” and “Thunder Road,” and followed that up with a seven-song encore featuring “Jungleland,” “Born to Run,” “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Detroit Medley,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,...

"Tell me what you want!" "Don't ever stop driving." An official trailer is out for an indie crime thriller from Australia titled Mercy Road, the latest film made by director John Curran. Not to be confused with Jim Cummings' Thunder Road. This recently premiered at the Melbourne Film Festival and already opened in Australia this month, with a US release coming up soon. In Curran's thriller Mercy Road – an unrelentingly tense psychological thriller – Luke Bracey plays a flawed everyday man who commits an impulsive and vicious crime. In this ultimate journey to redemption, he soon learns just how far he is willing to go to save his child. The cast includes Huw Higginson, Susie Porter, Alex Malone, Martha Kate Morgan, and Toby Jones. Early reviews are positive, saying "Bracey plays a dad on a mission to save his daughter in this strangely surreal film set mostly in a truck.

Last November, it was announced that Hannibal TV series creator Bryan Fuller would be re-teaming with Hannibal himself, Mads Mikkelsen, for a family-oriented horror project Dust Bunny. Bruce Springsteen emerged on the rock n’ roll scene in the 1970s. The New Jersey singer had a flare that combined so many aspects of early rock with a new sound that combined an energetic voice with distinct instruments. As a young musician, he was inspired by many popular rockstars of the 1960s, such as The Beatles and Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen once called Bob Dylan the “father of my country,” showing how influential Springsteen thinks Dylan is.

Director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves have once again proven there's an endless appetite for exquisitely crafted combat sequences, with "John Wick: Chapter 4" breaking franchise box office records. The latest installment in the massively popular action saga ramped things up considerably, delivering a high-octane 3-hour-long action cinema masterclass, cementing the "John Wick" movies' standing as bonafide blockbusters. That's impressive considering the first "John Wick" film was initially expected to be yet another flop for the then-struggling Reeves.
"John Wick: Chapter 4" looks set to continue the series trend of making a lot more money than its predecessor, which in Hollywood means one thing: more of the same is coming. In fact, that's been the case since 2017, when "John Wick: Chapter 2" made $171 million at the box office — more than double the first entry's take. Yet, the trite saying of "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" came calling. By 2010, Hollywood wasn't calling the "Speed" actor anymore, just as he was approaching 50. Writing and directing a short is a potential passageway to creating a full-length feature film.
Aspiring directors use this medium to create a proof of concept on a small budget that can go on to win on the short film festival circuit and be picked up by investors, leading to larger projects and paving the way to a career in Hollywood.
Shorts are not uncommon to be made as proof of concept for a feature film, especially by first-time directors. Multiple Oscar-nominated actor Bradley Cooper, for example, had to prove to the studio heads that he was capable of directing A Star Is Born, also starring Lady Gaga, in 2019 by creating a short.
The box office hit Smile, directed by Parker Finn, is a recent success story of how a short can go on to launch a career. Finn’s short film for Smile initially titled Laura Hasn’t Slept...

Published by Random House in 2021, The Confidence Men is a World War I tale about two British officers who escape from a remote Turkish P.O.W. camp…by means of a Ouija board. Avatar’s Sam Worthington, Jennifer Hudson, Milla Jovovich (the Resident Evil franchise), Quvenzhané Wallis and Academy Award-winner Common are set to star in Indie Spirit Award-winner Stefon Bristol’s (See You Yesterday) new action-thriller ‘Breathe.’
In the movie, after Earth is left uninhabitable due to a lack of oxygen, a mother Maya (Hudson) and her daughter Zora (Wallis) are forced to live underground, with short trips to the surface only made possible by a state of the art oxygen suit made by Maya’s husband, Darius, whom she presumes to be dead. When a mysterious couple arrives claiming to know Darius and his fate, Maya tentatively agrees to let them into their bunker, but are they all they appear to be?
Bristol will direct from the Black List screenplay written by Doug Simon (Dimension’s Demonic). Principal photography on the edge-of-your-seat survival thriller will take place on location in Pennsylvania in this summer.
