Utterly pointless movie.

Ultra low budget - checkout the energy barriers at the beginning ie a light bulb inside a parking bollard did not bode well for this calamity of cringe.

It has some monster effects but you see them for about 1/2 a second and barely that with some really poor zombie makeup and weird pieces with a fathers incestuous relationship with his daughter and other weirdness it all just became laughable as it appears they are trying to make some cult sci-fi horror without any Horror or any Scifi!

The acting is tragically poor , the story is mind bogglingly stupid and nothing makes sense especially the continuity and oh the end sequence....Pitiful drivel!

I just had to write this after trying to watch this awful movie . If you could take all the feminist ideals about how evil man is and how perfect women are and put them into movie form this is it. Men are beasts that only want to cage women. Women are innocent creatures only wanting to be free from ALL men. I don't know what snowflake university backed the funding for this film but it's definatly the most hateful biased piece of drivel I've ever watched.

Story Lacked Structure

Most of the cast were okay and the locations were good. However, the story is meandering and lacks a coherent structure, and some of the dialogue is poorly written.

It would have been better if the main character had been more likable, so she could have gained the sympathy of the viewer. And when we do see a likable female character, we soon find she is in a sexual relationship with her father and has had a child by him. That is sickening, at least to me.

There are a few decent action scenes, but overall the movie is too negative and depressing.

A wild with no danger

Part of me was intrigued by 'The Outer Wild's' concept, if executed right it could have been fun and inventive with nice tension. The cover was reasonably cool if not an innovative one. With a less than inviting critical and audience reception, there was apprehension but with a concept with a lot of potential there was determination to go against the grain and at least find it watchable.

Alas, it was good potential completely ruined by irredeemably bad execution in for me one of the worst films of its type. 'The Outer Wild' was yet another film that was as bad as indicated by the things that made me apprehensive before watching. Really try not to take ratings to heart, and am almost all the time very good at that, and always watch films with an open mind despite how it sounds, but it was very hard to do that with 'The Outer Wild', having seen so many films recently that are lowly rated and poorly reviewed and they turned out to be that bad and worse. 'The Outer Wild' is one of those.

'The Outer Wild' looks like it was shot and edited on a limited budget and with very tight time constraints, it just looks so drab and chaotic with afterthought-like visual effects. Would have completely forgiven that if the rest of the film overcame that hurdle and had all the other components done well in spite of. That wasn't to be.

Nothing memorable about the music, which is over-bearingly recorded and not always very well placed. The direction has no life or personality, which severely hurts the film's momentum (continually long-winded) while there is nothing natural in the rambling and clumsy dialogue filled with utter gibberish that was impossible to take seriously.

Hurting 'The Outer Wild' most was the story, which was basically non-stop dullness and utter nonsense. So many parts are hard to follow, was completely lost most of the time, and usually my comprehension is just fine, being someone who has had no issue understanding films in the past that are criticised for being confusing (won't name them in order to be fair). There is no sense of danger which severely hurts any tension or suspense, no excitement thanks to the pacing being so plodding, no imagination and nothing unsettling. The ending is a tedious and pointless head-scratcher that fails to make sense.

Couldn't care at all for the characters, that one learns nothing about and they are basically sketchy stereotypes written in a distastefully biased way. Am not going to mention the acting due to all the performances being so forgettable. that nobody stands out.

Unfinished feminist work

Very feminist and anti men.

No ending, just shoot the main guy in the head and stand on a beach because we actually cant go to this amazing place we hype all movie.

The writer clearly had no real begining or ending idea for this movie and seemed to want to get attractive girls on screen. He also has them kiss for no reason.

If you're looking for a movie to help you spread extreme fear of and hatred for men, you're in luck because this movie is one of the most anti-male movies I have ever seen.

Basically, the plot is, there is something wrong with society, the women are in a better place away from men, and to cure men of their "problem" they need to be shot dead. All the men in the movie are basically sick and evil, and the one guy who seems to be ok needed to be shot and killed to be a better man

Wow, you can bet if someone dared to make this move with the roles reversed it never would have been allowed to be created in the first place much less shown.

It is a good movie to watch these days.

The acting is good. The plot is hard to figure because we are not privy to all the characters' motivations but things begin to make some sense. I enjoyed this movie. Some twits complained that a daughter and father had a child but that's not promoted as good, just the way things are at the end of the world. Some complain that it is anti-men but they live in a world where the men turn animalistic so you'd be anti- men too! The women were just as bad so no bias there. I didn't think the dialogue was bad, just stilted in a world of fear and mistrust. Clearly cheap to make but nothing wrong with that...so was the original Mad Max. Maybe not great but I've sat through a lot worse. I'd say it's worth your time if you have a bit of patience and a little more depth than some of these reviewers.

What king of logic was in the mind of writers to write so primitive story and so nonsense dialogs? What forced people to take part in this ...? Whole movie I searched answer to these questions and didn't founded. I don't understand any reason of characters to act in that way like they did, especially at the end. Why? What it was?

Actors was much better than this awful movie and only that man and woman helped me to watch it in hope it will be understandable later.

Forgettable feminist trash

All men are either evil or beasts and women are just pure and perfect and innocent. The writer/director is obviously a self hating feminist man.

The acting is not awful but that's about it.

Also, everyone needs to report bamartin's review. It's the only review they made and they give this movie a glowing 10/10. They are obviously just trying to boost the rating.

It Almost Made Sense

It almost made sense. The girl was stunningly beautiful. The acting seemed fine. The first half was great. Then, what? Some kind of cryptic goulash of almost explanation; with almost a resolution. I gave it four stars; because it was almost good.

But it can't make up for the absolutely atrocious dialogue. Whoever wrote this flop has no idea how people speak, or how dialogue should flow, or, you know, actually make sense in the context of the scene.

Couldn't even finish it due to cringing every time a character opened their mouth.

Steer clear. Waste of your time.

I was hoping this was going to be a decent B movie. Well, swing and a miss, big time.

The story didn't seems to make much sense, nor did it even flow. Random events, even more random dialogue, and the lead character, Lauren McKnight was a walking trash can.

She came off as one of those macho lesbians that tries waaaayyy to hard to be manly. If she would have chewed tobacco, her persona would have been complete.

Her acting is right up there with Ralph Machio from the original Karate Kid.

Paper bags have more personality.

Overall, a dull story on a shoe string budget.

Hard pass.

boring and pointless

Ok acted and filmed , just a poor boring meandering story with only a maybe ending, ie she may have reached her fabled sanctuary but its hard to tell.

Alright Low Budget Watch

I was expecting this to be kind of bad, but it was better than I expected. It's obviously a low budget indie film, but the acting in it is actually okay. The cinematography is good too, it doesn't look overly bad or cheap.

The storyline had potential, but probably could have done with a little bit more polishing. It does require a fair bit of suspended disbelief too. It does have some interesting parts going on, so it's fun if you don't have amazing expectations.

People have said it's "feminist trash" because all men are "evil" in it. But honestly there's a lot of bad people about because it's post apocalyptic. There's a lot of lies, different motives, and distrust about. I probably didn't need the incest though.

And the women at the end make the lead character commit murder if she wishes to go with them. So arguably there are a lot of "not great" people about. If you are all just trying to survive, there's a lot less human decency about.

"The Outer Wild" - An Underrated Gem of a Movie!!!

"The Outer Wild" is from start to finish an extremely wild ride. As many Indie films are, it is a breath of fresh air from the usual, often ho-hum major motion picture theatrical films of today. "The Outer Wild" was made with unsurpassed passion, hard work, and dedication which is evident in the fantastic acting from superb talent such as Christian Oliver (who most effectively plays "Cole," the bounty hunter), Lauren McKnight (who plays "Laura," the beautiful and bad-ass runaway girl), Jeffrey Vincent Parise (Rifle-toting "Hank" who knows how to live off the land and enjoy homemade beer too!), Tory Taranova (the wild-eyed, excitably energetic beauty, "Elsie"), Zach Roerig ("Laird"), Jimmy Jean-Louis (who, as "Ramson" takes a shot that will make any man wince in pain), and Dean Stapleton (the creepy, yet likable "Abner"). But the talent, passion, hard work, and dedication in the making of this film goes far beyond the acting alone. The DP (Director of Photography), Phillip Briggs, did an incredible job of capturing the beautiful Colorado landscape with continuity and with the availability of some fantastic shots. The music, lighting, and special effects makeup are top notch too. And last but not least, Philip Chidel, who wrote and directed "The Outer Wild," deserves the lion's share of the credit for creating a captivating, intense, and entertaining film that allowed the entire cast and crew to illuminate their talents in a way that should make any writer/director proud. (FYI, If you haven't seen the 2006 movie "Subject Two," which also stars Christian Oliver and Dean Stapleton and was written and directed by Philip Chidel, it's another Indie must-see!!!). In closing, "The Outer Wild," created with limited means and a limited budget, doesn't attempt to solve any of our world's problems, nor does it have an agenda to fulfill. Its sole purpose is to entertain and with that purpose in mind, this film succeeds in every possible way imaginable. "The Outer Wild" is an entertaining cinematic gem of a movie, so much so I bought a second copy of the DVD so I can keep one at home and one at work or with me when I'm on the road. The DVD's bonus features with audio commentary from Philip Chidel, Christian Oliver, and Lauren McKnight and the deleted scenes (also with audio commentary) are very entertaining as well! AWESOME!!! AWESOME MOVIE!!!
