There's A Few Issues With This Thriller
P3n-E-W1s31 February 2018
This is a clever little tale which has a pretty good twist to the main plot, though even a couch-potato will be able to work it out quite early on. It's just a shame everything else about the movie isn't up to that standard.

Please be aware that you will need to watch an awful opening sequence. This is both badly acted and scripted. However, it's not shot too badly. But once you're past this and into the story proper then things do lift... a little.

The main bother I had with the story was the whole "Fund Raising" arc. No matter how much I didn't try to think it out, I still couldn't relate to the fact that, mother of two, Stella (Hartley) would even consider hanging around with the self-gratifying Meredith (Williamson) and her kowtowing minions. Let alone, try to impress her. This entire scenario was filled with such stereotypical fodder that it muddled the main storyline; this should have been a better arc.

Secondly, the acting was all over the place. This could be due to the out of sequence shooting of the scenes, because Freya Tingley (Blake), would be dire in one scene and then pretty decent in the next. It really does disjoint the film to have this kind of acting difference. The rest of the cast was pretty average, though Brody Hutzler (Tanner) and Bree Williamson (Meredith) do add a bit of solidness with their portrayal of their characters. Though, I think the trouble with Lindsay Hartley's character is due to the writing and direction, rather than her acting. There were quite a few things that weren't completely believable with Stella.

Though the story is strong in its synopsis, it does let itself down on some of the narration and stereotypical characters. There's also the obvious antagonising scenes where we get to see Blake's real character and motivation. The number of times that their friend's daughter, Julianna (Green) told Stella that she was like a mother to her was near vomit inducing. Some of these scenes appeared forced and there were too many.

This film would have been so much better with these issues sorted out. But even though there were a few annoyances it still is a good film, not great.

For the most part, the direction and pace are standard and steady, not adding anything new to the film. The acting levels out at average. And the story is better and stronger for the character of Blake and her background.

If there's a rainstorm or blizzard blazing outside then spending an afternoon with this flick wouldn't be too bad.

Another Lifetime/Hallmark-type thriller
mjanssens267 April 2021
This one is your typical "psycho nanny" with a twist. I won't give anything away but the film had a couple decent twists and it was an easy watch. I never judge these films as though they're supposed to be Academy Award winners so just sit back and enjoy the silliness.

Acting is SO bad.

I LOVE Lifetime movies, but the main character (the mother) her acting was so bad. It seemed very forced. I have seen her in other Lifetime movies and I don't remember her acting as bad as it was in this movie. It was a good storyline though!!

Watchable but annoying villain

Warning: Spoilers
The side plot of the fundraiser really served no purpose other than to give Stella a reason to need help with the boys. Stella and Meredith should have been friends. They weren't really frenemies which could have been fun with two soap veterans, but it was more of Meredith throwing shade and Stella just going on (until the very end). It almost felt like Bree Williamson (Meredith) was in the movie as a favor/cameo because she didn't have much to do at all. Stella and Tanner made a great couple and played new parents well. Lifetime has difficulty making relationships believable in most movies. The little twins were cute.

Blake was a very unsympathetic villain and I got tired of her whining. For someone who took offense to being assumed to be a teen, she sure acted like one. Her role would have been more bearable had she done more to ingratiate herself. After hearing the exposition from her adopted mom, it's clear she was given as much help as they could give her on top of a nice life, but she didn't care and was just a spoiled, murderous brat. Oh and dark eye makeup does not make one scary. The end is frustrating because yet again, instead of being in jail for crimes, the villain is in a hospital. She killed three people? Hello???

I couldn't take Passions seriously and watched for maybe the first month of the show, but I like Lindsay Hartley's movies. There are a couple of movies called A Mother's Nightmare and A Father's Nightmare, where an adopted/"abandoned" child does much better at slithering in and attempting to destroy their birth parent's life. In this movie, Blake is pretty much off from the get go, so it's like well why didn't they see the flags? It's not like Stella/Tanner were desperate, they just needed maybe a few weeks of help. There's no excuse for not doing a deeper dive into the background of someone taking care of your kids. I really wish Lifetime would come up with a newer way to set up these plots.

Funnily enough, the movie is called The Wrong Nanny, but it's not part of The Wrong series.

I'm just here for the Wi-Fi
nogodnomasters20 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Made-for-TV fare, a psychotic nanny (Freya Tingley) who doesn't try to seduce the husband (Brody Hutzler). Early on we discover she is a vindictive killer who has found her real mom (Lindsay Hartley) and hires on with her as a nanny.

Freya Tingley had really bad dialogue written for her and she didn't deliver her lines any better than a high school drama major. There was nothing believable about the whole film.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Bad promotion
jerar-0895510 July 2022
I usually don't write reviews on movies but this one got me to this point. This movie promotes wrong ideas. As you have given your child for adoption in the past and when the kid finds you wishing to be with her real mother now, even after all you are strong enough to take her back, you still reject her and put yourself first! Clearly children that have been abounded would have behavioural problems, and the mom should've comprehended the stigma behind her child. In this film, the abounded child wanted to be with her real mom even clearly asking her "keep me I want to be with you", Instead of holding your own flesh at a gun point or kicking her out, Stella could've kept her and started a healthy behavioural therapy while loving her at home, after all incidents at the end could've been prevented. This way the movie would've had a positive msg. At the end of the film it shows how healthy Stella lives with her "New Family" and the abounded kid was living in the system all cold and alone drawing an imaginary family. Bad stereotypical promotion of this film.

Enjoy it for what it is
djjqpjjk20 May 2022
Let's be honest, there was never any "Oscars buzz" surrounding this movie, but that's not what it was made for. The acting is questionable, the plot is questionable, the script is questionable and the directing is questionable, but if you're up for a bit of cheesy light entertainment for a couple of hours, you could do a lot worse. Put it on, switch off your brain, and just enjoy.

A predictable thriller
lisafordeay28 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The Wrong Nanny is a 2017 thriller and tells the tale of a woman named Stella Armstrong who lost her mother from pancreatic cancer 20 years ago and is setting up a fundraiser in her memory. Stella hasn't time to look after her twin boys and decides to hire a nanny. She soon finds a candidate named Blake, a young woman in her twenties who seems like a sweetheart.

Little does Stella know is that Blake is no other than her biological daughter who she had to give up 20 years ago and she is now seeking vengeance. Will she succeed?

The thing with these made for TV movies is the way they portray their crazy villians/villianesses.

They start off caring and sweet for the first 59 minutes with bits of their evil side showing up at night or sometimes during the day, next they are in their car screaming as they know someone is watching their every move then for the remainder of the film the person drops their act and goes mental. Its like the filmmakers are out of ideas at this point.

Blake's Dangerous Mood Swings
lavatch25 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Young Blake Noland is subject to enormous mood swings. At one moment, she may be chipper and warm, then she may fly into a jealous stupor leading to uncontrollable rage and violence. This is the profile of the nanny who is hired by the loving couple of Stella and Tanner Armstrong.

The Armstrongs are a beautiful couple with two twins. As Stella is planning a major fundraising event for cancer research, she and Tanner decide to hire a nanny. It is clear that Blake has her sights set on the job. What is unclear is why Blake has an apparent obsession for Stella.

As the film unfolds, Blake's behavior becomes increasingly erratic. She explodes at the dinner table over a trivial matter. She is also rude to young Juliana, whom Stella has taken under her wing. This makes Blake livid with jealousy.

Stella badly misjudges the behavior of Blake and keeps her on as the nanny. Things come to a head at the time of the fundraiser. It is at this moment that the screenwriters came up with an inspired idea for a prop. Tanner was given the gift of an old Western six-shooter, which is on display in the family living room. The pistol will be used ingeniously in the melée that occurs when Blake becomes totally unhinged.

The character developments were great, and the performances outstanding in this fast-moving film. One of the better character developments was the snooty socialite Meredith, who felt she was superior to Stella. It turns out that both Blake and Stella turn the tables on the neighborhood snob. It seems as though Blake and Stella may have more in common that originally meets the eye. Is there something in the genes?
