Bleak and unlikeable
Platypuschow2 April 2023
Plot

On September 5, 2008, Fate Vincent Winslow was approached by a stranger asking for "a girl and some weed." Homeless, the 41-year-old is entrapped into the sale of two "dime bags" of marijuana, motivated by one thing; food.

Cast

Unfamiliar with anyone involved.

Verdict

Standing at just under 20 minutes this isn't what I expected, I thought it would be another tale of police bigotry but instead it goes the other way and tells a story of a homeless man, his desperation and the minor felonies he commits to surbive and naturally the consequences.

Is it impactful? Yes but less than it should be. Is it an enjoyable poignant watch? Absolutely not. It's bleak, it's depressing and though I appreciate the gritty story they're trying to tell sadly they're not showing us anything we've not seen before or are aware of in society.

I respect the message, but this is 19 minutes devoid of originality or entertainment.

Rants

My dad is a grade A bigot, he doesn't believe in white privilege or that anyone "Of colour" has less opportunities than us. I presented him with a scenario, I told him that in this roleplay he was an employer, a manager and he was interviewing for a job role.

I told him about those he was to interview and made sure the white guy was the least qualified, he was against a black man, a Muslim, a gay man and a transgender woman. Naturally he didn't hesitate in hiring the white man and in doing so validated everything I'd been explaining to him. Then I told him to imagine how many of him were out there and to tell me against how minorities have the same opportunities as everyone else.

The Good
  • Valid message

The Bad
  • Seen it all before
  • Just an unpleasant experience to view.
