GO FIGHT is a cheap Thai rip-off of ONG BAK, the hugely successful martial arts movie featuring Tony Jaa. ONG BAK was an international success as well as doing very well in Thailand, so it was only natural that imitations would follow, and GO FIGHT is perhaps the most blatant of these.
The film stars real-life Muay Thai boxing champion Samart Payukaroon as a heroic fighter who must battle a rival fighter as well as some criminal goons. As with many Thai films, there's a mixture of comedy, romance, and melodrama in the mix. For a very low budget film, I noticed that the script was better than usual and attempts at characterisation bring the people involved to life in a way that Thai films usual fail to achieve. The classy piano score is also a step up from the norm.
Unfortunately the low budget nature of the film means that this film has disappointing fight scenes. Payukaroon is obviously a naturally skilled fighter but the fight scenes in the film are quite badly staged with all the wrong camera angles. Still, this is far from the worst Thai cheapie I've watched and, believe me, you can do much, much worse.
