We open with a flashback of a young boy on a swing, and suddenly as the swing goes backward behind a tree, it emerges empty. Twenty years has passed but wealthy Adelia Gordon is still looking for her missing grandson, Adam Gordon. And the man who presents himself hands her a token Adelia recognizes.
Jonah Foster believes the latest presenter is just another impostor. And reporter Louise Cherry is back doing what she does best, pumping a gullible George for information. "Adam" Gordon doesn't recall anything but manages to recall just enough to convince Adelia. Julia is using her best forensic predictors to see if she can be of help.
Murdoch does his own investigation of documents related to the case; and the bones of a young boy are found wearing the remnants of clothing the missing child was reported to be wearing at the time of his abduction. But Julia reports the child found had rickets which means these are the bones of someone else.
Murdoch is also investigating a missing man by the name of Irving Moses who was around at the time of Adam Gordon's disappearance. He had been in contact with his sister Edna Bergman and had told her he was returning to Toronto with good news. Murdoch discovers his body alongside train tracks outside of the city. Under the dead man's fingers were found some fibers.
Meanwhile Adam "Slate" Gordon is having remarkable memory returns; but then Adam goes shooting with Jonah, there is an accident: Adam is shot but not killed.
Miss James. Julia's assistant, pursues the question of the identity of the bones (she finds he was known as Johnny Scott); and discovers someone had claimed the bones: Irving Moses.
A suitcase is found on the train; and while it was thought to belong to Irving Moses, it actually belongs to Adam "Slate" Gordon. A search of Adam's room reveals a suitcase belonging to Irving Moses: a suitcase with documents indicating Moses was the original kidnapper and had a letter for the real Adam Gordon. The ultimate reveal won't be a surprise if you were listening earlier on in the episode.
Detective Watts is still investigating the missing women; and Norman Bruce recognizes a "picture" of one of the missing women: his wife Murial. And we learn something about Watts: his own sister had gone missing years ago.
Bruce claims his wife had received a letter from a cousin before she left him; and the letter said something about a safe-haven for women. But so far this part of the ongoing mystery is just that, a mystery.
